Vans Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Thousands of builders with partially built kits. Sounds like a very captive market. What else can you do but wait? Sure some of the really impatient folks may sell, but then the new owner will wait. I think Vans has a lot more wiggle room than most. The aluminum recycler aint much of an...

    I’m calling the peak

I think that's more about the engine overhaul situation right now - parts prices are crazy and many of the big shops are backed up for six months or more. I can imagine lots of owners don't want to deal with it and are taking the opportunity to get out or move to something else. C.

All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

This is completely different. This is about the county usurping the authority of the FAA. No one has an issue with private FBOs charging more on busy weekends. This is a local government's money grab that has serious implications on GA's future access to publicly-funded airports.

All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

As usual, a lot of thread drift and people missing the point on here. There are a bunch of problems with the situation in Las Vegas. The FAA is supposed to be in charge of who gets to takeoff or land at a public airport. If a county government can set arbitrary landing fees without input from...

Operating in Class D without clearance

Ha, ha. I'll let you try that first. The main reason you would want to 'end communication without prior notice' would be if they just gave you an instruction you don't like. C.

Operating in Class D without clearance

Well, I have even FURTHER bad news for the OP (and everyone else). 91.123 is in effect REGARDLESS of the airspace you are in. If you are in communication with ATC (flight-following, VFR advisories, whatever) anywhere and they give you an instruction, you have to comply as long as it is safe to...

How much stock do you put into a top overhaul?

I'm with you on this one. Even if 4 out of 6 cylinders need work, why are you taking off the two that are actually working well? Just cause you want them all to look the same? I don't get it. Really depends on what is wrong, too. Valves, rings, etc. C.

If GA is getting less popular and there are less new pilots why is the price of old planes not falling?

Yep. A 210 I was trying to buy went to Brazil on Friday. They don't even inspect them. Just wire the cash and send someone up to fly it away.

If GA is getting less popular and there are less new pilots why is the price of old planes not falling?

Dang, did they get super tiny women as models just to make the Cessna look huge? C.

    C172 Generator braked tripping

Pretty easy to take the generator off and have it tested. Brushes do wear on these and are a common replacement item. Are you using the old mechanical voltage regulator or one of the newer electronic ones? There are some really good troubleshooting notes on the Zeftronics web site. You're...

I can't make sense of this crash

The point I was trying to make was that I don't think there is any possible combination of control inputs that would cause the wings to fail, inboard or outboard of the struts. It's a 70 year-old design with probably more fleet hours than any other GA aircraft. If it was possible, someone...

I can't make sense of this crash

A large bird could bend the tail or a control surface, break or jam the control cables - any number of possibilities. Personally, I don't believe you could rip the wings off of a strutted Cessna if you tried. Consider the millions of flight hours with ham-handed students and barely-qualified...

Comm 2 has died. Is it worth replacing?

If you shop around, you could probably find a 28v no-glideslope model (the cheapest version) for under $1k, especially if you didn't care about cosmetics. I got a fancy Garmin comm with all the monitor/memory functions a while back and thought I'd never use my comm 2 again. I was wrong. I...

    The robbed that smiles...

Very interesting feedback. Maybe the refresh rate of the electronic viewfinder is a bad match for the typical prop RPM. Perhaps there could be a software fix for this issue. Did the in-body image stabilization prove useful? I would think that would be another big advantage for your work...

    The robbed that smiles...

Jack, Since you lost all of your gear and had an opportunity to start over from scratch - I'm wondering why you didn't opt to go mirrorless? Seems all the state-of-the-art new glass is RF not EF. Happy to see you're still on team Canon regardless. C.
