    Barf Air

Was on an Electra for a ski charter from Orange county to Oakland and then to South Lake Tahoe. Approach into Oakland was really rough then hadd to hold for almost an hour over Tahoe in severe turbulence. My wife and I and one Stewardess were the only ones on the airplane that didn't puke. The...

If I HAD to buy a Tail dragger?

I figured you had more time than that. I have over 3000hrs, 2000 TW in over 120 types and insurance hasn't required any dual in most of the single engine airplanes I have checked out in the last 10 or 15 years. Not that I don't take advantage if there is an experienced pilot in type to get some...

    Cessna 140/170/190 wheel pants?

I have a set of perfect ones so niener, niener. Backing plates are fairly flat and easy to make.

If I HAD to buy a Tail dragger?

FT, I know you have flown so many types the insurance companies just tell you to get in and go.

If I HAD to buy a Tail dragger?

I flew a friend's a few hours. Visibility while taxiing is a bit blind on the right side but other than that it is a sweet flying airplane and I found it easy to land. Had the 330 Jake and burned about 13gph in cruise at around 140kts if I remember. As far as the Jake being unreliable the guy...

    Melenoma

I was treated for malignant melanoma with imniotherapy. I have finished the therepy and my Pet scans have been clear for 9 months and a recent brain MRI was also clear. Do I have to get a special issuance first if I want to do Basic Med or can I just do basic med. I know if I had any heart...

    Converting 2-seater to 4-seater?

Relatively speaking. The cost of the Sportsman 2+2 is about 10% more than the Glasstar. We are talking airplanes remember so $10,000 here and $10,000 there and pretty soon you're talking rel money.

The Wife and I Were Laughing, Who Has Seen a Plane Fly Backwards

Did it in the late 70s. Flew a Citabria GCBC backwards in a Santa Ana wind. Took three guys hanging on the airplane to taxi it on and off the runway.

    Converting 2-seater to 4-seater?

The only plane I know of that did it inexpensively is when they stretched the Glasstar into the Sportsman 2+2.

Light Sport Experimental for "big boys"?

No problem, I lost 65lbs over the last 10 months. Lost 27 in the month of December alone. Wouldn't recommend the cancer diet but I'm in remission and down to 175lbs so I'm almost an official FAA person.

    Super Decathlon first flight...

Leave the seat back and use a thicker back cushion. You'll probably find that the only time you use full deflection is just after touchdown. I have a lot of time in the Super D and most of the other Citabria line. All of them fun but the Super D is the best flying of the bunch.

Light Sport Experimental for "big boys"?

The 12 is about as easy to build as any homebuilt. If you have some mechanical skills you should be able to build one in less than a year. I have helped on a couple of them and they are first class. Also got to do all the test flying so got some fun out of it.

Light Sport Experimental for "big boys"?

The Remos has one of the highest useful loads of all the light sports. As I remember my Dad's was just under 700lbs useful.

Started building CH750 STOL rudder kit

I have built 5 complete airplanes and various percentagages of several others. I have pretty much had an ongoing project or two in the hangar for the last 35 years. The only way to build and finish one is to work on it every day even if only for 1/2 hour to keep the momentam going. It helps to...

Talk me out of building a Van's RV

The fairings that come in the kits are one place Vans falls down on. The last kit I built was in 2008 and the stock fairings took a lot of work to get them fit right. They might have improved them since then as the fairings on my friend's RV12 were pretty nice. There are a couple aftermarket...

Talk me out of building a Van's RV

You won't regret building a RV. If you have good basic mechanical skills you will be able to finish it. One thing about building a RV is you will probably find several builders in your area that can help. You can build 90% of the airplane in a single car garage. One tool to get is a tungsten...
