    RV, Glassair, or ???

1400 hrs quick build kit. I could do one in less than 1000 hrs if I did another one. I am a highly experienced builder and an A&P and have a nice well equipped shop.

    RV, Glassair, or ???

An RV is much faster and flies much nicer than a Mooney. A Mooney flies great straight line point A to B but is one of the ****teist flying airplanes I've flown. No fun at all to just go out and yank and bank. Also with experimental you get away from all the expensive certified parts for a...

    RV, Glassair, or ???

RVs are built very robust and have a rollover structure. They do slow down well and come over the fence at about 65-70 on short final. Most guys fly them much too fast on final but that's another topic. I'm in Idaho and I fly over mountainous terrain all the time. I have had one partial engine...

    RV, Glassair, or ???

With your low time I would strongly suggest a RV6-7 A. We have checked out several very low time pilots out in RVs with no problems. Even if you wanted a tailwheel RV it still wouldn't take much time to check you out. Both the 6 and 7 with 180hp/CS prop are 200mph cruise airplanes on 10gph. RV's...

    Taxiway take off???

My friend used the helicopter pad last week in his Supercub. Wind was 90 degree crosswind at 30 its. Tower cleared him at his own risk. Rolled about 10 feet on touchdown picked up his passenger and was off in less than a fuselage length.

    New Traffic Pattern Advisory Circular

When I'm flying the N3N I identify myself as Yellow Biplane N45261. If I called in Naval Aircraft Factory N3N 90% of the pilots out there would have no idea what it was or what to look for. Plus it's a mouthful.

Sport Aerobatics Magazine Article and Flying the Pitts S-2C

Get him up here this summer and I'll let you guys fly the RV7. That should change his mind.

Sport Aerobatics Magazine Article and Flying the Pitts S-2C

Welcome to the dark side. Too bad you didn't get to fly the Great Lakes from the back and learn to land it. I did my tailwheel training in a Great Lakes and it is really fun to land with that oleo gear. They cut me loose in it in 7 hours. That was 1978 and the airplane had less than 200hrs on it...

It's Time! Anything to prepare for?

I have used the King course videos for my writtens. Although a little boring at times they get all the points across for passing the test. I did one section every night and did the workbook review after watching the video. You can knock the whole thing out in 11/2 weeks and then do a few...

    My Vans RV conundrum.

On a normal approach I would have the plane configured for downwind with half flaps and about 100mph. About 15"mp would give about 100. I would turn base when the threashhold is just behind my shoulder and I would close the throttle to idle and select full flap. I use 65-70mph on short final...

    My Vans RV conundrum.

Almost every nosegear collapse on the RV series is due to pilot error. I do transition training and fly with a lot of guys in their RVs and almost every one of them flies 10-20 kts too fast down final and try to force it on. If flown properly you can touch down on the mains right at stall and...

    My Vans RV conundrum.

I have flown all of the RV series except the 3 and 14. I have built two 7s and helped build several others. I also do insurance check outs for the whole series. I also have a lot of Mooney time. First I would get a 7 or 7A over the 9. The difference in stall speed is not that great but the 7 is...

    Building a zenith 750

Only the original builder can get the Repairman Certificate for the airplane he built. It does not extend to type.

    Building a zenith 750

The perfect GA airplane, in my opinion (looking for critique)

I fly a friend's IO-550 conversion. Great performance in the backcountry gets off short and climbs like crazy. If you want to burn the fuel it will cruise 150+kts + but it will cruise around 140kts burning 11gph running LOP. And those numbers are with 8.50 tire all around. Makes a great airplane...

    Whose planes do you fly?

I get to fly a variety of airplanes. I do take care of several also. Right now I have a RV-7, Stinson 108, N3N, C-140, 2 Supercubs, 182, Zenith 760, Glasstar, UTVA 66, and a RV-12 to fly anytime. Should have the Nanchang CJ-6 done by mid summer.

Great, Fast, Safe Cross Country Aircraft

There are some very nice flying RVs out there for sale. As for building time, I'm a very experienced builder and mechanic and the last RV took me 14 months and 1400 hours to build. To do a project like this you have to work on it every day even if only 1/2 hour to keep the momentum going. The...

Great, Fast, Safe Cross Country Aircraft

You can't beat the Van's RV series for ease of building, speed and good flying manners. With over 10,000 flying it is the best supported homebuilt out there. If you have good basic mechanical skills you can build the quickbuild kits in 1-2years. The 6,7,8 and 14 cruise in the 185 kt range on 10...
