What are the new rules regarding sleep apnea and a 3rd class medical? Does it even apply? If yes, then why? Does FAA think you will fall asleep in the middle of a flight? I can see where it might affect airline pilots but not recreational ones.

That was the jist of my question. I had a special issuance medical in 2006 that expired in 2007 so I was wondering if I could go through the basic med vs having to go thru the FAA AME this time around.

Its been several years since treadmill and holter monitors. Cardio doc released me from care in 2012-2013 ish and said only come back if you need to. All yearly physicals since then have normal sinus rhythm. If I have to go get more tests run that costs $$$$.

I believe that the plane has the Garmin audio panel and a GX55 GPS. I would need decent Navcomms plus glide slope and Xpndr.
