    Ethics of straw buying...

Never said it was a "straw purchase". And, I'm aware of varying state laws on private gun sales. However, the ethics issue remains the same.

    Ethics of straw buying...

IMHO, that’s backwards, in some states you may immediately sell a firearm to someone who hasn’t passed a background. But I believe it to be unethical to sell to someone you believe could not legally purchase one. Same as any other straw purchase, ethics may come into play when said straw...

Does FBI investigation show on background check?

It depends. A NAC or "National Agency Check" is pretty thorough. But, I don't believe an NCIC or CHRI would show anything unless you're convicted or have outstanding warrants. I'm not an expert, but I've been subject to all 3 before due to employment.

AOPA was there and they testified.

    Washington State HB1554 is back

The opposition to this bill did a good job. Monday's hearing on the substitute bill began at 5:30pm. The video is available at https://tvw.org/video/house-transportation-2023021406/?eventID=2023021406 . I would like to add: IMHO, everyone should learn to use either a Gats jar or a chamois to...

    Washington State HB1554 is back

Washington state House is considering a bill that would supposedly "reduce public health and environmental impacts" from the effects of leaded AvGas. The "Substitute" house bill (from it's previous failed version) stops short of immediately outlawing the sale of leaded avgas. But, instead...

    Molex Crimp Connectors

Nope. That's how much they cost. And, they seem to be getting harder and harder to find. Be careful about using look-alike pins. Molex made a couple of similar looking pins that aren't quite long enough to work with the King radios. If you buy some of those, compare the overall length and...

    Dynamic Prop Balancing PIREP

As far as I know the Dynavibe Classic is just provides 2 dimensional plot of vibration intensity and relative clock angle wrt the master blade. They're kinda like a single axis (channel) version of the old Scientific-Atlantic 3-axis VATS testers from 40 years ago. I thought those spectral...

    Dynamic Prop Balancing PIREP

I also did vibration analysis and blade tracking in helicopters in my previous life. Actually got pretty good with it. I bought a DynaVibe kit last year. And, I've used it on an RV-6, a Commander 114, and a Cherokee 140. The results are pretty interesting. On all 3, I got the IPS within an...

Chinese Spy Balloon Flying Over the U.S.

NORAD is "changing" how it analyzes raw radar data.... Anyone remember the "UFO" to-do in 2019 and 2020? I wonder if one has anything to do with the other.

    Replacement Suggestions for King KX-155

At least some of those old King card-edge connectors are starting to crumble from age. And, the bonafide King connector pins are getting scarcer and more expensive. It really sucks to have to spend $5k to replace a 50 year old NavCom but there it is. Maybe if you need an updated GPS too, you...

    Tailwheel or Instrument training?

If it were me, I go for the thrill of the experience. Instrument rating can be hard work. Even more so if you don't consider yourself to be on the fast track to an airline career. If you're lucky you'll do your instrument rating with an operator that runs a tight operation, has great aircraft...

My name came up on the T-Hangar list!

Its only slightly bigger than a standard 40' T-hangar. The white walls and a deceptively small Sonerai (blue and white airplane) make it look bigger. But, yes it is a nice hangar. For what I'm paying it better be!

My name came up on the T-Hangar list!

That's what they did at my airport. $800/mo for an insulated T hangar is just enough to force a lot of people out. I don't like paying that much. But, when airport hangars are cheaper than comparable storage lockers, this is what happens.

My name came up on the T-Hangar list!

Sounds like its time to get the local fire marshal involved in a code enforcement action.

My name came up on the T-Hangar list!

There's a local privately owned airport here (not the one I'm at) that the owners want to sell. The county wants to close the airport, tear down the hangars and use the property as maintenance/storage yard. Their reasoning is that there's only a couple of airworthy airplanes using the airport...

    FAA on Instagram

I don't know.... The old "aviate-navigate-communicate" is pretty basic. The fact that the check-airman felt the need to voice his concern seems to say that things weren't as they should be given the situation. That being said, we're all on some sort of continuum. Who's to say when someone...

    Accessing rear of instrument panel

I second removing the front seats. It only takes a few minutes and makes it easier to get yourself into position. But, I have yet to find 2 aircraft of the same model that look identical behind the panel. You could have a complete rats nest back there. Or, you could have vacuum lines that...

Total disappointment with 4 local avionics shops

A couple of years ago, residential contractors were so busy, they couldn't keep up with demand. This seemed to have led some of them to believe that not only could they pick and choose which jobs to show up for. But, they could also treat their customers shabbily and still charge astronomical...
