JetBlue tilts backward during deboarding in NY

Not just older jets. The 737-900 needs a tail stand unless the rear of the aircraft is unloaded first. https://simpleflying.com/aircraft-tail-stand/

So, homebuilders...who are we and where do we stand?

Been awhile since I posted to this. So, here's the latest on my RV-8 extra-slow build: Pacific Coast Avionics cut, engraved and powder coated the instrument panel for me. I've been buying the avionics over the last several years. Just finishing up the wiring with a VP-X Pro electronic...

Hardware kits - I've been a needy hangar neighbor too often

Yup. Just Go through your Annual with the guy that's signing it off. Every nut bolt and cotter pin (size) you touch, make sure you have at least 2 of on hand. For wheel bearing maintenance, if you've got felts, have 4 on hand as well as 4 of those big honk'n cotter pins. Spark plug washers...

    Horizon Jumpseater goes crazy

Dang! An Alaska pilot grabbing the fire-pull T-handles? That is beyond crazy-as-F! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the rest of the story!

What’s a graceful way of asking for a different approach?

Obviously, it would be good to make your intentions known both to ATC and on CTAF, to fly the approach to within a reasonable distance before breaking it off to join the VFR pattern, and if not landing full-stop to instead execute the published missed approach. My whole point was that once...

What’s a graceful way of asking for a different approach?

If they clear you for the approach without asking, would that change anything? You're still cleared for the approach. Once you've broken out at or above minimums and acquired the landing environment, you're either gonna land and close your flight plan, or go missed and contact approach. The...

What’s a graceful way of asking for a different approach?

Maybe I'm missing something. But they ask you what your intentions are at completion of the approach. If you're a full stop, once they clear you for the approach to a non-towered airport, I don't think they care, unless you go missed. I'd think that if you don't cancel in the air, you could...

    Taxiing into a hangar

Had a young gent a couple of years ago that, since he didn't have a shovel to clear the snow berm off from in front of his hangar, he'd just hop in, fire his 182 up and power it out. He did. Powered it right into the hangar across the taxiway. 2 aircraft totaled: $250K+. 1 hangar door...

    Decongestants

I remember at one time OTC decongestants and antihistamines seemed to work much better. Nowdays, even the Sudafed that you have to get from behind the counter doesn't do much for me. It makes me sleepy. But, then I still wake up congested and feeling hung over.

EPA Finds Small Airplanes Cause Dangerous Lead Pollution

Yep, you are 100% correct. I don't think anyone would dispute that. But, that's not what the article is about. The article is about how much lead exposure can be "scientifically" attributable to general aviation aircraft, burning 100LL. If you read the article you'll see that the "data" from...

EPA Finds Small Airplanes Cause Dangerous Lead Pollution

I've been around airports daily since the age of 17. You'd think with fueling/defueling aircraft, being around turning aircraft and flying in aircraft all those years that I'd had some measurable level of lead in my blood system. Nope! for my 60th birthday 4 years ago I requested I be tested...

    Rolling a cessna

I don't think a lot of folks appreciate just how much wing dihedral and relatively limited roll authority can mess with someone trying to complete a "ballistic" roll on a training aircraft not intended for aerobatics. You've gotta KNOW ahead of time why the earlier poster said "we call them...

    uAvionics TailBeacon T/S experience?

Agreed! I hate those cheap socket pins for the female Dsub connector from uAvionix. I replaced all those with proper pins and sockets.

    uAvionics TailBeacon T/S experience?

Its fixed now. Got a good PAPR on it Saturday. Turns out the baro-alt sensor had failed due to water intrusion. uAvionix sent the owner a replacement for the fixed repair price since it was not under warranty. uAvionix has had a service letter out on this failure due to improper installation...

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

If you make the effort to actually come and see the airplane and kick the tires, I'll make the effort to show you the logbooks. No way in hell am I gonna copy/paste mail or copy/email my aircraft logbooks to an "interested" party. I have enough people in my immediately sphere on influence...
