Dayton Ohio - National Museum of the US Air Force

Looking to see who has interest in doing a trip to Dayton, OH with the primary activity being the National Museum of the US Air Force. Those nearby may want to just do a day trip. Those further away, or those wanting to do more activities in Dayton, may want to do a weekend trip; which is what...

    Airport Recommendation St. Petersburg, FL?

I wouldn't recommend it for a one to two week stop, but for a short stop it's fine. We flew there several years ago to go to a college football bowl game at the Buccaneers stadium next to the airport. Only real challenge was being left high and fast on the approach by Approach; and LOTS of...

    Airport Recommendation St. Petersburg, FL?

We just got back from there. We were visiting my wife's sister and BIL. They are staying at a condo in St Pete Beach. We flew into SPG - Albert Whitted. Great airport, great people at the FBO. A very nice restaurant, The Hangar, above the FBO. We had breakfast there this morning before...

    Tesla Model 3 - Finally.

I think I cut-n-pasted it. I don’t see the same pieces, but one like it that I think they were trying to say rotate and balance the tires and an alignment.

    Alice: Electric plane

They could possibly do short stuff, like Cape Air type flights. Or NYC/DC/Baltimore type hops. They'd have to have some cranking charge systems, like the 350 kW chargers, or higher. Or maybe multiple chargers and separate battery systems, giving redundancy and the ability to recharge quicker...

    Departing PDK to the south

I'm with you Jim. I prefer to fly as much of it private as possible. We're flying to St Pete soon to visit my wife's sister and BIL, but that's a lot shorter for us from Atlanta than for you from CMI. We'll bring snacks, wine, games, and more with us, because we're flying private. If we were...

    Departing PDK to the south

Depending upon traffic you can go over KATL. That’s always fun if the sky is clear enough to see Atlanta Hartsfield. Just a blast to see traffic on one side of you landing and on the other side taking off. All from the busiest airport in the world. I’ve been over it plenty of times, still love it.

    Where to retire?

Spot on. We all get old; or hopefully we get old. Need to have a plan for when that happens. Sometimes it's gradual and you can have time to make adjustments. Sometimes that shift is quick and a plan needs to have already been developed ahead of time. Don't just plan for now. Plan for 5 to...

    Where to retire?

No state income tax in Tennessee. Lots of tax exemptions for retired people in Georgia. My parents moved from Tennessee to Georgia 5+ years ago. They love the lack of income taxes for seniors; depends upon how much you make as a senior. Stay of the metro areas for either and property costs...

    2022 flying plan dilemma

Four times the rate of a 172 for a SR20? o_O Ouch! I was going to suggest the SR20 for more speed and cabin room until I saw that. Yeesh. I feel your pain though. Early in my flying we did a weekend in Charleston. There were 50 knot headwinds on the way home. Yeah, we were in a...

For Sale: Partnership Cirrus SR22 Fractional Share - Atlanta, GA - PDK/RYY

That partner has reconsidered. He's not trying to sell his share now. I think he looked at the run-up in prices in the past year and may have decided that doing it solo was a bit too pricey right now. Plus the wait-list for a T-hangar at the airport closer to him is really long. The other...

Planning a trip to Airventure 2022

Sounds like fun, but I'm not a camper. I get that it would be fun to hang out with a bunch of other pilots and check out new stuff, but I'm just not a camper. I like things like AC and a modern private bathroom; spoiled first-world person. ;) I have yet to make to Airventure, even...

Owning a Saratoga with zero time in model and insurance

Suck it up and pay it the first year. Painful option though. Then fly it a bunch. Lots and lots of hours. Then it’s much cheaper the next year. Plus you learn the plane really well. Do you have your IR? If not, that could be contributing to it too. If not, work out that the first...

Midwest POA June Brunch: June 22, 2024 1000 CDT, The Jet Room at KMSN, Madison, WI.

No guts, no glory. ;) No, I live in Georgia; actually I would say I’m not from Georgia, I’m from Atlanta. ;) I’ve lived in lots of places in the US. Shoveled enough snow that I moved far enough south to not have to do that any more. Now I just “visit” snow. :) I’ve picked up ice flying...
