    Sad, I recall there was a similar accident in the Phoenix area a few years back that actually resulted in them raising the class B floor, allowing more clearance from the terrain. I also understand that that the latest redesign of the Salt Lake Bravo provided more room over the ridge line...

    I would probably be interested in that. I know a DPE in Albuquerque! She works at one of the 141 schools there. She and her husband have competed in many Gordon Bennett and America's Challenge. Do you know where any hydrogen or helium pipelines might be that we can tap into?

    a good friend of mine says "never fly anything that does not have a front" but i've recently become balloon-curious like Ted. Especially after following the Gordon Bennett and America's Challenge gas balloon races this year!

    My wife soared there a few years ago at an international meet of women glider pilots. They didn't get weather that supported flights well into the mountains but she had a great time and the scenery was amazing

    Rec.aviation.soaring is the main "forum" used by US pilots. It is not PoA equivalent though. It's Usenet, no photos, very antique interface, etc. But somehow it persists.

    in most failure scenarios you should still have a normally aspirated engine.

    Do glider pilots wear parachutes

    Required for competition, and most European gliders seats are really designed assuming the pilot is wearing a chute so it helps to have for comfort. It is fairly standard in single seat glider to wear them. It is not as standard in the US for training, especially when training in Schweizers.
