    Commercial Certificate experience requirements- gotchas?

Because training towards a Private Certificate is not the same as training towards a Commercial Certificate. This was clarified in the Murphy Interpretation in 2011.

    Commercial Certificate experience requirements- gotchas?

Its a terminology thing. the areas of training required in 61.129 do not exactly match the training required in 61.65. In practice, they are done, but its not implicit because the regs don't match. IMO you do not need 10 hours of training on 61.129 areas. you need 10 hours of instrument...

    Commercial Certificate experience requirements- gotchas?

yes, solo is solo. Dont mix/match PDPIC/Solo time. Watch the Takeoff AND Landing requirements at night. I've had a few come up short from flights where they took off during the day but landed at night. 2hr day & night XC's need to be post-Private Pilot training Make sure you have some...

Comanche in Turbulence awful compared to everything I've flown.

I wouldn't base your opinion entirely on yesterdays conditions. I was coming back from Hamilton, TX yesterday and the turbulence with the wind and thermals was above average gnarly the whole way. I was rocking and rolling all the way from liftoff until the plane was in the hangar.

    Additionally Aircraft Category

To add ASEL to a Private Glider rating, you'll have to meet the 61.109 flight experience requirements for PP-ASEL. For the most part, the only "help" you'll get is that you can use your glider total time towards the 40 hour total time requirement. You'll still need 20 hours of dual instruction...

    Cessna 120/140 yay or nay?

Yay. I've had my 120 for just over a year. Have put 193 hours on it! It's been a great solo commuter. Occasionally i'll take a passenger for a ride and have done a few XC's with my wife.

Rule proposing requiring a Class 2 medical for commercial balloon pilots is live & open for comments

Senator Ted Cruz sponsored the "Commercial Balloon Pilot Safety Act of 2017" which added a paragraph into the 2018 FAA Reauthorization bill which required the FAA to make this rule. The Lockhart pilot had a history of DUI's which he'd never reported and would've if he'd had to make medical...

    length of ppl practical exam

*in general* i see an almost direct correlation between knowledge test score and how well the test goes. This surprised me as when I was instructing full time I really didn't put a lot of stock into the score. I semi-joked that anything over 70 was just showing off.

    length of ppl practical exam

For me, the paperwork takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on how well organized your logbook is and if there's any maintenance issues with the airplane. ground portion ranges from 1:20 to 2:00 of actual questioning depending on how long you spend looking up answers, unsure you are...
