    Glider pilot bails out

Parachutes are required in Competition and basically all semi-modern gliders have seatpans that are designed for the pilot to be wearing a parachute. It was a South African glider that had the rudder cable break on a flight out of Moriarty.

CFI or flight school near KHUT

Salt City Aviation is a club at KHUT with a Grumman Yankee and Tiger. There is also a 152 and a 172 for rent up the road at McPherson. My glider club south of Hutchinson provides low cost low speed training. There are many options at different price points in Wichita.

    Checkride retest 60-day limit

Any DPE can pick up the discontinuance. If the 60 days expire, the discontinuance no longer provides credit and you'll have to repeat the entire test.

    Light Sport Glider Training?

Pretty much any glider club or commercial operation could train for it. I think most trainers meet the light sport rule...but why wouldn't you just get the private glider? No medical required either way and with private you can fly any glider and above 10k...

    A REAL Multi...

Correct, DPEs no longer have to have multi engine types listed in their CLOA. Now for practical tests in Multis or Turbine airplanes, we must have 5 hrs PIC in type.

FAA announces Com Balloon medical requirement (and BasicMed Easter egg)

this rule had nothing to do with evidence of anything. It was mandated by the Reauthorization Act in 2018. Congress required it so the FAA is implementing it. It's clear in the NPRM and Draft rule and the discussion of the comments that while some valid points are made, the FAA is required to...

    Combined checkride CPL/CFI

When did you get your CFI Ed? From memory the current requirement is two FOI areas, three technical subject areas, and a lesson on a maneuver. Impressive to knock that all out in less than a couple-three hours minimum. My CFI oral exams usually end up 5-6 hours start to finish but that...
