    421C down Fairview, OR

The pilot's voice seemed to reveal trepidation and misgivings while discussing his plans with the tower. It's a shame he didn't act on those feelings. I hope the victim on the ground didn't have time to realize what was happening. It would be a mercy.

    Hello Crash at 62S

Your post reminded me of the time one of my close friends was flying a 172 over the lava flows near Grants, NM around 1 AM when his engine decided to take a break. This was in the 90s. As you know, the lava landscape isn't the ideal place for a night emergency landing. While the...

Beauty in the Thursday evening sky

I still have my junior Captain certificate from Frontier Airlines, presented during my first flight on one of their Convair 580s. It was around 1966. But my first commercial airline flight was in 1965, on an American Airlines DC-3 from Albuquerque to Dallas Love Field. It was a few days after...

Beauty in the Thursday evening sky

A few minutes ago I was outside pulling weeds, and the unmistakable sound of round engines caught my attention. Just a mile or so south of me, and flying around 3,000' AGL, was a DC-3, heading east,. presumably after taking off from KTKI. There wasn't anything remarkable about the aircraft; it...

N/A HVAC ECM blower motor not working

The manufacturers put circuit breakers in air handling units for safety and liability purposes. It protects their equipment from dangerous and illegal installations. Those AHUs are in occupied dwellings.

N/A HVAC ECM blower motor not working

You can absolutely "blame the installer" for connecting improperly sized conductors to a breaker that is rated at 2.5 times the current capability of the wire. It's time to call an electrician. It's a situation with improper protection of conductors, and the HVAC guy doesn't know anything about...

N/A HVAC ECM blower motor not working

That 50 amp breaker fed by 12 AWG wire is... interesting. What's the amperage of the panel breaker feeding that circuit?

    Airline Exit Rows

I always snickered when I was in an exit row and the preflight briefing instructions were to calmly place the removed panel on the row of seats, etc. as if one was opening a closet door looking for a mop I'm thinking if I open the exit, the door is going out the hole with me right behind it...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

But those interoperability requirements don't exist, do they? You're confusing a government standard with a free market competition. Expecting two different companies to corroborate on something when they're going head to head is what's silly. My point about Soyuz was that dozens of American...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

I forgot to mention no one ever noticed the Soyuz suits weren't compatible with the American version. Boeing and SpaceX are competitors (not equal by any means), and expecting them to collaborate on such a critical item is silly.

Citation X inflight fire and emergency landing 8/5

I came across this mishap while scrolling through ASN. The crew smelled smoke at 10,000' MSL shortly after takeoff, and initiated an emergency descent. They experienced a runaway nose down trim and a complete electrical failure shortly thereafter. The jet touched down just short of the runway...

    Boeing’s on a streak...

Prior to this article raising the alarm and causing much panic, I had read in several places that SpaceX will toss a couple of extra suits in the backseat of the Dragon for the Starliner crew. Tragedy averted.

Tom Reilly's XP-82 back on the market

I really enjoyed following the rebuild of this rare aircraft on Tom's website. It is truly an incredible airplane. Wonder what the price tag is...

Scott Bloomquist (unlicensed pilot) killed in small aircraft crash

Scott could wheel a late model like no one else. He embraced the villian personality, and fans both loved and despised him. Rest easy, racer.

    Aviators who are not pilots

The father of a high school friend owned and flew a 310 without a license. I can't remember if he flew in IMC. This was in the mid 1970s.

Why didn't they fly the plane back to the runway?

Like most arguments among engineers, this one could go on forever.
