Only if the automation can collect all the data from the various departments, then create three-ring binder “Trip Books”for all the execs on the trip! The raw travel time number crunching is a tiny, but time consuming portion of her job.
This is EXACTLY the kind of tool my wife has been wanting for her job, which includes managing the travel itineraries for corporate staff on their company jet. She often has to figure out how long they’ll need to get to the airport after a site visit, then how much time they’ll need to get to...
If you’re doing the commercial definitely get the CFI. The written is almost the same. If you can pass the one you can pass the other. Then the FOI is pretty easy.
As soon as I passed my commercial I switched seats and worked on the same maneuvers from the right seat teaching them. It only...
The additional graphics power of the pro translates directly into the snappiness of map scaling in ForeFlight. Well worth the small additional cost for me.
We're currently around 4,600 pilots and Crew Support is a relatively small group...they typically have around 20 people during the morning and afternoon shifts, then a fraction of that on the "graveyard" shift til 3 a.m. It's a job I don't envy and sometimes wonder how they pull it off.
While...
Our "lifetime travel" benefit only accrues after ten years of service, and is only on our metal, so of limited benefit. Unless they raise the mandatory retirement age or I go into the training department for awhile after aging out, I won't qualify even for that. My goal: Invest well enough...
A quick story:
I've been fortunate to be able to have most weekend off for 95% of my 121 career so far. With the upgrade to Captain, and the drop in seniority after the upgrade, that hasn't been the case the first few months in the Left Seat but it's steadily improving.
For May, the only...
One of my classmates at my airline didn't start til in his 40s. Originally didn't intend to go airline, but ended up there. You never know where life will take you!
As for just learning to fly, never say never. My first student 38 years ago was 60 and one my recent students is 65.
Just a quick update as I finish my third month in the left seat...
My comfort level with the left seat has come MUCH faster than it did in the right. I guess it helps when you already know the machine!
I'm enjoying the Captain side of things even more than I did the First Officer side, and...
Hence the caveat "in a position to do it". It's not for everyone, even if they have the passion to do it. On the other hand, if there's a will, there's a way...
Great story and gives me hope for opportunities once I age-out of 121 flying. If I’m still having this much fun flying jets four years from now, I’ll definitely be looking for some kind of flying gig.
Assuming I can survive another fire hose experience!
I think they do look at the driving record. I know the airlines do, and multiple reckless driving citations would definitely kill your chances of flying with most airlines.
You'd have to ask them for the definitive answer, but the fact they're giving a federally issued firearm to an individual I'm sure factors into their perspective. The pilot doesn't take the airplane home with him. The FFDO does take the weapon home with them, so off-duty behavior patterns are...
Without disclosing security sensitive information, I know the FFDO program, which arms 121 pilots, focuses extremely heavily on historical and current alcohol usage while screening applicants. It’s a really big deal to them, and understandably so.
