    When dreams come true... (long)

Sadly, probably very true. My buddies who upgraded earlier this year were all on multi day trips over Christmas. I’m sure I’ll be doing the same next year. But it has been a glorious vacation this year!

    Pirep Apache 160

I got my MEI in a Geronimo conversion with 180s. It was a really nice airplane to fly. Big, comfy and really quite docile. It actually performed pretty well on one engine, too. They can be had pretty cheap. Not super fast, but definitely enjoyable flying machine.

Thanks, everyone. I'm enjoying some relaxed days at home...and flying with my students, again. Flew with the first one an hour after landing on Monday! I have two more doing checkrides later this week. The IOE coordinator said it would probably be after the 1st before my IOE is scheduled...

So, a few details about the LOE... The final "checkride" is called an LOE...Line Oriented Evaluation. It's done by a company FAA designated examiner. It started with a Knowledge Validation (KV)...same as an oral exam in any checkride. It was an hour of firing limitations, emergency procedure...

    The phrase "With You"

THAT one is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me!

    The phrase "With You"

This. It's just a phrase often used when checking in with a new controller. "Thank You" isn't in the official Pilot/Controller Glossary but I still use it regularly.

Help Visualizing setup for DME ARC

This! Take your starting radial and either track inbound on it or outbound on it depending on which direction you're coming from. About one mile from your DME arc distance (say the arc is at 14 DME, and you're coming from the VOR, 13 would be your initial turn point.) At that point just look...

No tennis balls available, but we found an orange worked just fine. My sim partner practicing callouts with me before our sim session!

Exactly....our Originating Check. And it's counting all the items including the responses we're looking during things like the FIREX monitor test, which is only done on First Flight of the Day (FFOD). Similar tests for duct overheat monitoring and ice protection tests. It gets pretty...

Update: Crossed the second hurdle with the Procedures Validation. We have about a dozen "flows", seven key ones for Captains, the longest one with around 80 things to do/test/check/verify, etc. You do the flows, then run the checklists. I really dislike the pressure of evaluation events! Things...

Yeah, it has really been a challenge for flight schools to staff their teaching ranks. It even hit my little school's maintenance. Our mechanic, and my good friend, has watched with a bit of envy my journey the last three years. We both did our ATP written tests in the same week to beat the...

I definitely earned that patch! Actually, I have to say I've been impressed by a few of my millennial classmates. They've been pretty sharp and came prepared. I think they'll do well. It will be interesting to see what I find once out on the line with the brand new ones in the right seat.
