    ELT: 406 MHz worth it?

My plane is currently in for annual, and I'm leaning toward replacing my 121.5 ELT with a 406 MHz model. As far as I can tell there isn't actually a mandate requiring replacement, they just aren't going to be certifying any new 121.5 installations -- but, it looks like the 406 MHz models are a...

    GA into KLGA??

This seems like a bigger problem to work through than any math about landing fees or 100LL prices. Just my 2 cents of course.

Long Term Planning for a Fast Comfortable Cross Country Plane

Sounds like maybe you've already made up your mind? If so, okay, go for that since no one here is likely to change your mind if you're already set. Otherwise, you keep talking about a fairly expensive mission profile (seems like to me anyway), and minimizing TCO, but you never put any numbers...

    Instruments ILS Question

I see why it looks like you could read this both ways, but to me the only interpretation that makes sense is "if none of these things are visible, then ...". If you don't interpret it that way, then you are left with "if the approach lights are not visible OR any portion of the runway...

    What airplane for this mission...?

    223 HP. :-)

Want to get an instrument rating.

I'm not sure whether this is intended to discourage you or not, but I wouldn't let it. You'll have some rust to work off, but I don't see any reason you can't do that all at the same time. A good CFI will see what you need to work on and get you back to speed wherever it is.

    Husky for Private Pilot Training

Really, the Jar Jar Binks avatar is giving Han Solo grief?? :-) :-)

    Southern Arizona Flight School's

I did my PPL at Kelly's, although with a different instructor who has unfortunately moved back east; last I checked she was still not taking new students. She does rent though, once you are checked out with her---or at least she does to some people, I don't know if she's adding new renters or...

    San Diego tips?

Might do, definitely... but, I am coming from Tucson; we have lots of great carne asada et al here too. :-)

Plane Ideas for Recurring X-Country Mission

$400k and you don't care about operating costs gives you a lot of options. Interior cabin space a concern? If you don't mind a small cabin, maybe a Super Viking. I don't remember what their useful load is though; might be tight with 3 passengers. Cherokee-6/300? When you say "high IFR" how high...

    San Diego tips?

That does sound pretty straightforward.... We would be mostly around Kensington and Mira Mesa, and possibly somewhere along the beach depending on the details of the day. We would need a rental car, and possibly two, again depending on details. A friend's daughter lives in Kensington and just...

    San Diego tips?

Thanks for the pointers! It looks like I will probably prefer MYF but keep SEE in mind of the weather looks like it's going to be overly cloudy closer to the coast. Thanks!

    San Diego tips?

I didn't really consider KSAN - it's a little farther, but not by much, but I figured I'd stay out of the way of the commercial traffic and I thought it also might be more slightly to get me stuck under low visibility. I'll be coming from the east, more or less direct from El Centro.

    San Diego tips?

Tips and advice for trips to San Diego, for the unfamiliar? I'm probably looking at KMYF or KSEE, unless people advise otherwise. MYF is closer to where I'd be going by about 30 minutes' drive, but VFR only, so if coastal fog or cloud cover favors SEE significantly, that's good to know. If...

Cessna 208? Probably around twice the useful load you have here... :-)

    Japanese F-35 missing

For the F-35, I believe the cross section is a couple of inches or so. Barring intentional reflectors, of course.

Buying an airplane; how much “Total Time” is too much?

It really depends a lot on what you want the airplane for. How are you going to use it? Does resale value matter to you (there are a lot of potential situations where it might not)? The total hours are really a fairly small part of the bigger picture.

    On board wheel chocks

Hold for multiple days? Hydraulics are great for applying force in the moment. Not so much for "hold this pressure for a week" -- they seep a little, slip and bleed and loosen a little. Not what you want for more than basically "right now". (Although the system does work great for 'right now'.)

    High altitude advice?

Thanks, all good advice! I appreciate it. What I really should do it do a real Colorado-based mountain flying class; I'd like to do the one murphey posted about recently, though I don't know if it'll be practical for me to get up there for it or not.
