Looking for a time builder airplane (grab some popcorn and enjoy the show).

Cherokee 140? Cessna 152, if you can fit in it (I can't -- too tall)? I haven't priced either recently, but I think it's starting to get to be a *little* less of a seller's market...

Bose A20 broken headband hinge options

Anyone had to fix one of these? I found a replacement part here: https://hobbsflyer.com/products/bose-a20-headset-replacement-headband I've never heard of this company (not that I've had occasion to until now) -- anyone know anything about them? Other options? The headset is old enough to be...

    Another ‘Cherokee 180 vs. 235’ thread…

I can attest to the fact that the 12,000 ceiling for the Charger is pretty accurate. I can creep a little above that slowly if the conditions are good, but not enough to be very useful.

    Another ‘Cherokee 180 vs. 235’ thread…

Let's not. remember that AI, in the form of things like ChatGPT, is designed to generate text that sounds good, but there is zero fact checking. FWIW, I usually get a bit better cruise in my 235, but my ceiling is only 12,000 feet. That's unusual for the 235; most are higher, but check your...

    Mounting a winch

I asked my A&P about winching from the tail tie-down (PA-28-235) and he said it would be fine, that one's much stronger than the typical Cessna one, for what it's worth. I already have a winch that will do, I just need to mount it, but for reference -- what tug can you get that's anywhere near...

    Mounting a winch

I want to mount a winch on my concrete hangar floor so I don't have to struggle to push the plane uphill into the hangar and over the track for the door, which is a serious pain especially when the tanks are mostly full. Do I have to drill holes in the concrete and bolt it in that way? I was...

    What the actual...

I haven't watched the video in the original post, but I have to say that if any controller ever gave me an instruction "continue rolling" I would ask for clarification, because that just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Advice for new pilot flying into Colorado Springs

The only thing I would add is that be aware, runways 35L/R (or 17L/R, which I've never gotten) are very far apart, like a mile and a half. If you get assigned one and you're looking for the other to orient yourself, be aware of that. The first time I flew into COS I called the tower to make sure...

Afraid to maintain an old plane

If a 180 works for your mission, it's probably going to fit the budget a lot better. It won't haul what a 182 will, and it won't be quite as fast (depending), but it also has the advantage that parts are common and every A&P you'll meet will know them.

Afraid to maintain an old plane

Cherokee-6, Cherokee-235? In the same general class as a 182, but for whatever reason 182s seem extra expensive lately, because I guess everyone wants one.

Flight following - not sure why I didn't use it before

I was flying back to Tucson from Santa Fe a couple of years ago, with flight following, and somewhere a little south of Albuquerque someone comes on the radio: "Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached our final cruising altitude and the fasten seat belt sign is now off. The cabin crew will be coming...

How to best convey to ATC what I am flying.

Yep, and my plane is the 1973 PA-28-235 -- I'll usually give both, unless the frequency is busy enough that I don't want to consume more airtime than necessary. "279 is Piper Cherokee, P28B". Cherokee isn't wrong and they'll remember it, but being a 235 I'm faster (well, somewhat) than a lot of...

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

I respectfully disagree... *engine goes quiet* *looks around* "I should be able to make that flat spot... I hope..." :-)

PA 28 Student pilot 350 lbs

On mine (PA-28-235) the flap is okay to step when it is locked fully up, though I admit I don't usually anyway, and I'd err on the side of caution in this case.

PA 28 Student pilot 350 lbs

Which PA-28 do you have? Some have a baggage compartment limit of 100lbs, and some have 200lbs, if I remember correctly, and that may make a big difference in how easy it is for you to stay within the envelope. (For the original question, I don't know, sorry - but if in doubt I'd guess putting...

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

Let's put this in perspective... Is it a game? Of course! What else could it possibly be? Some (not all) of the criticisms I'm reading make it sound like people expect it to be a detailed and faithful re-creation of real flight in real airplanes. For a one-time price of $60, and an hourly...

    The Otto Aviation Celera 500L

Much much lower drag. At least that's the idea.

    The Otto Aviation Celera 500L

I think the Otto looks cool actually; it'll be interesting to see what the price tag eventually looks like. I can imagine them getting close to their projected performance numbers if they really did get the drag down as low as they seem to be claiming. And a 22:1 glide would definitely be nice...

Flying with frost on the plane

Ok. Well. One, I live in Arizona, this is really never a thing. Move on now if you want an actually knowledgeable reply :) You're still reading. Okay, well, that's on you. You want a number in knots for how much difference it's going to make?? There's so much detailed measuring and *Science*...

    Arizona Trip Planning Suggestions

Bisbee is cool, but pay attention to where you are in the pattern as you land. That big iron fence to the south is the Mexican border -- do not overfly it. :) Also, no staffed FBO or crew car on the field, you will need to call a taxi in from town to pick you up.
