    Air-to-Air Cessna 340

I’ve heard the same thing about the strakes, look cool, help a little with stability, but no 5 knot increase in cruise speed! Tip tank Cessnas that I’ve flown all had a little wiggle in turbulence.

    The used car market parallel

New vehicle sales are off the charts, the biggest slowdown is the lack of inventory! The reason last years new vehicle sales were down or appeared to be down, was the 2 month loss of production due to the virus. Now microchips are an issue and they are holding up production of some models.

Any wiggle room on the price of a factory-new plane?

I’m only 18 months out of the business and a lot has changed in 30 years, but it’s still a tough business. It’s all supply and demand, certain trucks are hard to get, they are still discounted, but not like they were 2 years ago. I agree ADM or any addendum sticker is BS, but not sure anyone is...

Tell me about the PA-46 Matrix (especially compared to the PA-32R)

OP definitely needs to get his brokers blessing on whatever he decides to do. He’s going to need a babysitter for quite a while if he buys what he wants. Insurance companies hate private pilots flying turboprops, I’ve got a lot of twin and turbine time and I usually only get a couple replies...

Tell me about the PA-46 Matrix (especially compared to the PA-32R)

After you get your instrument rating and a few hundred hours in a Bonanza or high performance retract single, you can buy your dream airplane and hire a pilot to fly with you. Insure it based on the hired pilot, build time in the airplane with the pilot and then you become insurable. :D Not...

    Looking for AP/IA ATL area

Nothing at FTY that I know of. If it’s just as close, I’d recommend RYY for a home base, neither FBO at FTY are big fans of light singles. I use S&S in Canton, CNI, they are more of a twin Cessna shop, but they work on a lot of different airplanes and have always been good to me.

Proof an airplane is a male?

Looks like a tail skid, but I can’t imagine needing one on a Citation!

Landing A 182 In My Back Yard?

My dad flew our 182P out of a 1500 foot grass strip for years, a house on one end and a lake on the other. He was pretty particular about fuel and passenger loading. Often we’d fly to buy fuel after takeoff. I decided I wanted to fly into that strip after I got my private. I took an instructor...

    How tight is too tight?

It was a joke, I didn’t think I’d have to explain it.

Where/how do you store your aircraft logbooks?

I know I’m in the minority, but I haven’t kept my logbooks at home, ever. The shop has always kept them and never an issue.

    Insurance increase? Anybody else?

The cables holding the lower portion of the door snapped out of the sidewalls when one of them got snagged. It was considered damage not in motion. I compared it to a vehicle door getting bent while the car was sitting still. To be honest, I was halfway surprised that they covered it!

    Insurance increase? Anybody else?

The 182 went up about 10%, the 425 went up about 35%. I had a $40K claim on the Conquest last year, the lower door broke, so I’m thinking that was part of the increase.

What a ride it has been

Better to have flown and been furloughed, than to never have flown at all. :D Seriously, good luck with the new gig!

    Flat Nosewheel Tire Rant

I touched down at FTY, then my home base on a bright sunny afternoon, smooth as a baby’s butt, until the nose tire went flat! Nothing like blocking the main runway at a towered airport to make new friends!! The FBO towed me their maintenance hangar and charged me about 50% more than my normal...

What Plane Should I Buy? Twin-Engine Edition

A wise man once told me, “Don’t let your wife sit in a cabin class Cessna, unless you intend on buying one” Almost thirty years later, he’s still right!

[N/A] Home Renovation: “The Rise of Absurd Quotes”

I bought a house with a partner to fix up and sell, big exterior issue was the concrete driveway, roots had busted through and it was a mess. First quote $5785.00, the second quote was $2950.00!! Some people need work and some don’t!

    My best friend died yesterday...

So sorry for your loss! She sounds a lot like Hannah, our Golden that we lost 6 years ago. Our daughter made 24 cupcakes one night for a bake sale at school. I covered them with foil and went to bed. The next morning the foil was in the floor and Hannah was taking a nap! Another time I left 3...
