    Need a Prop...

Tiffin Aire is awesome to work with. When we put the 3-blade on the R182 they delivered it right to our hangar @ KBJJ. No delivery fee, as I recall. Jim

Is there a Boston VFR corridor for sightseeing

We're not local, but......my wife has a sister in Boston. Just give 'em a call and tell them you want a city tour ^^^^^^^. They've been very accomodating when we've done that in the past. They'll give you landmarks for boundaries, but we flew around right downtown last time. Great fun...

Buying a plane with damage history

^^^^^. I had almost gone back earlier and edited my post to include that the 2 gear-ups were operator malfunction. :-) An aside...The logs on an ex-FBI aircraft have some interesting entries....once maintenance was done in Puerto Rico! Jim

Buying a plane with damage history

With all respect, I have to agree with George on this one. Our R182 had been gear-up'd twice by the FBI early in her career. We researched the documentation, did a thorough pre-buy inspection, and brought her home. With any of them the key is to research the specific airframe you're...

What is your daily use car

My daily driver is a 2012 Dodge Ram that just turned over 43K miles. This is my baby, tho... 2009 Wrangler with 34K 'old man' miles on it. Sits in the heated hangar for those cold Ohio winters...goes topless in the summer (til it gets too hot) :-0 Most everywhere we go, we fly or take...

    What Other Careers

Retired from an interesting series of careers.... 20 years as a road Deputy/investigator, several as a computer network admin/IT, rounded out by a stint doing criminal computer forensics and "on-line investigations" for LE. My last year in HS the leader of the 5th army band asked me to join...

Aviation stereotypes and a new observation

Ouch, Tim... :) I may be prejudiced...I married the 1st woman pilot I met....and yes, she is ^^^^^ :) My lady has been hiring pilots for over 30 years...guessing 1/3 of them women thru the time period. Her current co-Captain is another 'girl'...ex-AF IP with dual given to Eileen Collins...

    Will King and Garmin 'talk'?

The KY196 comm in the Cessna is on its last legs, so we're gonna replace both it and the KN53 with a new navcom...Garmin to match the GTN650. I should know the answer to this, but I don't... Will our current KI-209 nav/ils indicator 'talk' to Garmin 'stuff' or are their protocols exclusive...

    Simulators

Part of the issue, as I see it, with a certified BATD is that you'll be locked into a configuration. When we trained our bud on the 530/430 that came in his Bo, we used Carenado's Bo, with REP, and RXPs units, so he was comfortable with most of the environment. We use Carenado's T210 as a...

    Simulators

----- Just an addendum to the 'pseudo' avionics discussion. Agree completely with the above, however, an exception... Reality-xp makes a set of add-ons for some of the popular sim software that seems dead-nuts on keystroke-wise. In fact, it uses the Garmin Trainer app running in the...

    Backup/cloning solutions

Foxclone will clone your complete hd/ssd to another one of similar or larger size, or you can back a full drive (including OS/partitions) up to a file on a different drive. I've had good luck with it for awhile now.... Jim

    How did you find aviation?

When I was 5, I developed polio, and ended up being transported from our home in NW Illinois to University Hospitals in Iowa City in the back seat of Dad's Illinois State Police squad. (It was a different time back then.) I don't remember that. When I was finally released from the hospital, a...
