    autolite plugs

Leaning is key, no doubt. Yes, I think all 150's have an O-200A unless modified.

    autolite plugs

Yes the "other concern" is exactly it. I am thinking about using TCP in addition to the plugs to help with lead buildup around the valves.

    autolite plugs

I'd be interested in thoughts on this question too. In my new-to-me 150, I plan on adding TCP and using those plugs as well.

A&P near Richmond (KFCI) for prebuy?

Hello all, I'm looking for an A&P near KFCI to do a prebuy on a C-150. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know. Thanks!

Covid Vaccine Poll - How Long Will You Wait?

Ugh, this is really frustrating to hear. People believe whatever they want to believe, and love a good conspiracy theory. Who here knows someone that has been directly harmed by a vaccine? It's okay, I'll keep risking my own (and my family's) health taking care of you when you end up in the...

    New to me Corvair engine

I would absolutely call WW before purchasing this engine and have a discussion. It will be the best insurance you can get against a bad deal. Eyeballing the engine, it looks like it does not have a lot of the higher end parts that are available to make a state of the art motor. There's a huge...

Day 1 of my Zodiac CH650 Build

Good luck and have fun! I love the 650. I built a Corvair... be sure to follow WW's latest guidance to get the most reliable motor possible. Tons of resources out there. The skin in that photo above looks a little rough, did it clean up?

    Instrument approaches to grass strips?

I previously had a Champ based at Keller Bros, it's a great little grass strip, really the type of classic nostalgic GA field that I love. There is an instrument approach and I believe that military helicopters practice on it with some regularity.

Plane value vs. Personal Net Worth?

Lol, thank you for some much appreciated brevity!

    Working on my tail wheel...

You're more backcountry than 99% of pilots (myself included), so I'll give you props!

    Working on my tail wheel...

Doing wheel landings in the grass is still one of my all-time favorite aviation memories.

What is up with the prices of old spam cans?

Agreed... I'm willing to put in the maintenance and upgrades for an older plane, but not willing to spend $40k to turn a $30k plane into a $40k plane.

What is up with the prices of old spam cans?

I assume it's a supply/demand issue, I just don't know who is paying these prices. If you pay $25k for the airframe but it needs a new engine, you are now in over $50k for a clapped out 50 year old airplane with old avionics. So who are these buyers?

What is up with the prices of old spam cans?

I have been on the lookout for a C-150 or similar airplane and have been shocked at the asking prices I'm seeing. A local one for sale has the original (45 year old) engine, interior, and radios, and is asking nearly $30k. I'm blown away seeing prices in the $30-40 range for an average...

Plane value vs. Personal Net Worth?

When I was 26, I bought a half share in a C-150 for $6,000. I had a negative net worth at the time. Now I'm 35 and looking to buy another C-150 for about $20,000, and my net worth is a million. But I'm struggling to feel like it's justified. I guess I need to find a happy medium. I think...

    Thoughts on Grumman AA-1B/C safety?

Yeah, I was referring to the higher stall speed and spin issues. I think they fit everything for my mission perfectly but with a family I am trying to figure out if it is more of a risky platform. I did look at the NTSB database, and it looks like most fatals over the past decade were related...

    Thoughts on Grumman AA-1B/C safety?

Any thoughts on the safety of the AA-1B/C? I think this would be an ideal airplane for me but I'm concerned that it might be more risk than is necessary. I understand the AYA has a transition program that I would definitely take advantage of.

    Buying a Cessna 150

The typical advice (as above) is to have an independent mechanic to an exhaustive prebuy before purchase. I don't think this is really necessary in this instance. You are purchasing a 50+ year old airplane. It is going to have issues. So why do a prebuy? You are ruling out catastrophic things...
