Seller: Pre-Buy MUST be done at home base

I'm wondering if all the people who are saying to "run away" from this "dodgy" situation have ever actually sold a plane. For every legitimate buyer you have to wade through at least ten hopefuls and tire kickers. I've had so many people who were "definitely" going to come buy my airplane this...

Should you get a PPL license even if you are only expecting to fly LSA?

If the medical is a problem, just get a sport license. If the medical is not a problem, go for the ppl. Minimal extra training and they would never have to repeat the written and checkride.

Getting my CSEL in a Cessna 150

I'm planning on doing CSEL in a 150 this year. The reason? I own one. I weigh 155 but even still I anticipate finding a dpe that will fit may not be straightforward.

    Bare minimum equipment for IFR

Renting. Or a flying club. I went through this exercise extensively trying to figure a way to upgrade my C-150 to get the rating. Even putting in old radios cost more than just renting. I did 10-15 hours of attitude instrument flying in my 150 then switched to a club plane with a GPS to finish...

    Flying Magazine grounded?

I actually really enjoy the magazine - at least the first half dozen articles that are applicable to the GA pilot. However, no way I will be renewing. 4 times per year at a higher price? I'm not in it for the photos - the real life views are all I need for that.

Family friendly pilot jobs in Milwaukee

I'm 36 and pushing 500 hours. It's my dream to transition to a second career in something like this when I'm 40. I'm sure it is modest pay, but that's what I'm planning for an encore career.

    Why I chose a Cessna 170 over a 180, or Super cub

Wow, awesome footage! I love the heads up AOA display - makes it seem even more impressive (even though it is supposed to make it easier) to see these approaches that spend the whole time on the backside of the power curve. Fly8MA also has some cool videos showing what a 170 can do.

    Led light upgrade recommendations?

I got about 6, but they did replace it under warranty. Still doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. In retrospect, might have gone with a more expensive unit.

Sell 152 as is or with radios

Agree with this, should be able to swap out a replacement for a few hundred bucks, then at least it has something functional.

Change oil now, or after trip?

Not sure I agree with this. One might want to put fresh oil in because 3-4 months have passed, and it's only been 25 hours. That would seem like an ideal time for a drain and fill.

    Cirrus vs. Other for Training

This is great advice, OP. Although the Cirrus has the chute, there are downsides to using it for primary training. I stand by my recommendation to look at a light sport with a BRS for primary. Arguably a 172 with a BRS installed would be the safest option of all, but you'd be hard pressed to...

    Cirrus vs. Other for Training

Nothing wrong with that. It sounds like it's going to make the difference between whether or not you feel comfortable with flying, so I say that's worth something. My family is growing and I'm getting to the point that I think I'll want to start flying something with a BRS. If cost is a...

    Opinions on Accelerated Commercial courses

Change oil now, or after trip?

I'm with you. OP is already changing the oil 10-15 hours earlier than recommended, and is now considering changing even earlier. It's fine if you want to, but where does it stop? Why not change it every 20 hours? 10?

    Budgeting cost of Instrument rating

One thing that may make this more expensive than you planned - for IFR training, the entire flight is not hood time. I did a lesson yesterday that was 1.5 hours total, but 1.1 hood. So you are paying for airplane / instructor for time with every lesson that is not under the hood. Also, I'm...

Family friendly pilot jobs in Milwaukee

Turbine 135 jobs that are family friendly? I thought those didn't really exist, but I don't really know a ton about the industry.

Let me get ahead of myself: Buy into a twin? Story time.

The operating costs of a twin with a partner will be almost as much as a single by yourself. Either way, unfortunately you won't be in a position to fly the family in it for at least a year, easily more (life gets in the way). I'd strongly recommend enjoying the training and flying for...

Another Chute Pull and save (non-Cirrus)

Agree 100%... All things being equal I would always prefer to have a chute... I don't now but I hope that my next airplane will.

Family friendly pilot jobs in Milwaukee

Are there really professional pilot jobs out there like this? I might have to reconsider my career... too bad I live a thousand miles away from Milwaukee
