What's YOUR Best Tailwind Story ...

I seem to have headwinds both ways a lot more often than tailwinds one way.

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

Don’t waste your time with this stinker….I am so disappointed. edit: Disappointed doesn’t even begin to describe it. The most expensive TV series in history, and the CGI looks like a middle school computer lab did it. I’ve been waiting for this turd for 11 years and I’d rather watch paint dry...

Does a failed 2nd class Medical void my previous (and valid) 3rd class?

Yes, if you fail a medical exam it will void your current medical. I would recommend that an admin move this to the medical topics forum so one of our resident AMEs can give you more details.

    That doesn’t inspire much confidence!

    Treat oil leaks seriously

This was an IO520F, being flown primarily over very cold water or mountains. I generally didn’t fly this airplane, but the pilot who usually did was sick and I ended up assigned to the aircraft. When I walked up to it I noticed some oil on the ground and leaking down the nosegear, I called the...

Southern Airways Express C208 Lands on Highway Near Dulles

Turbine engines don’t really have partial power failures. Generally they are either running or they are not. (Or in the case of an FCU failure running but at idle)

Daughter wants a fun car, dad wants something more practical.

My mom had a Mini Cooper S that she bought new in 2010 and it was a maintenance nightmare after a year or so. She ended up selling it, and they bought a Miata for a fun car that they still have over a decade later.

Inertial Separator is to be opened anytime you’re in visual moisture below 40f IIRC. 700fpm does seem very low for a caravan. Could have been they were packing on the ice. The Caravan really doesn’t have any business in ice at all.

Some planes have autofeather, like most King Air models. The Caravan does not. I seem to recall it being pretty quick after shutdown that it will go to feather, although we very rarely ever shut them down without feathering them first. Generally we would feather them rolling and shut the engines...

All PT6s will feather when they are shut down unless it has a prop lock, but that’s generally only found on seaplane conversions. It’s just a function of oil draining out of the propeller hub. Not instantaneous unless feather is selected.

1983 Learjet 55 Out to Pasture in Montana

I haven’t flown a 55, but the max tailwind component for the 45 is 10 knots.

    Hiring standards are dropping

Nope. I think the only elected office that is required to get drug tested from the top to the bottom is the county sheriff.

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

A factually incorrect article. There has been a 121 accident that had fatalities since then, and there was the lady on the Southwest plane. PenAir 3296 and Southwest 1380. Still, two in 15 years is pretty damn good.

(NA - sort of) Your at your local airport and witness a fellow pilot kick a dog on a leash

I’ve been around animals my entire life, and I haven’t ever kicked one. I just recently taught my !!Cat!! to walk on a leash and it did not involve any kicking or abuse whatsoever. Sounds like the guy is just a horses behind.

For Sale Alaska Corporate pilot position

They aren’t going to hire any Joe Blow off the street and give them the big dollars. Most jobs for people without any AK 135 experience will start under $500/day. I think Grant and Yute are both paying around $300/day in the 207.
