I find this extraordinary: the CEO is also the test pilot

There was a CEO of a submarine company who was also the test pilot. I wonder what he’s up to these days?

Air Blue crash - captain with 25,000 hrs just as bad as some private pilots

Not all hours are created equal. I’d take the guy who has been doing night freight in a clapped out metro with no autopilot for the last 2500 hours over a 25,000 hour pilot who has only ever worked at the airlines. Not that it’s necessarily pertinent to this accident, but there is a seriously...

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

I know a detective that is a rep for Staccato and him and all his friends carry either P or the XC. I know another police officer that I occasionally shoot F class with who carries a Staccato as well. The owner of one of my favorite local gun shops teaches classes to the local SWAT team, he also...

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

I really like my Staccato C2. I’m waiting to see how much the prices drop on the XC since people finally figured out that 2011s aren’t drop safe like 95% of other 1911s because they don’t have a firing pin block like the series 80 colts. There’s lots of very upset people on the internet and law...

Looking for info on less lethal/non lethal self defense products

Huh? The 365 shoots like a subcompact 9mm. Nothing fun about it. The X Macro 365 is probably the least unpleasant little pistol I’ve ever shot, but I would not call it fun. I had mine for a year and sold it because I preferred to carry other pistols that I shoot more. The bigger the pistol, the...

Have you ever spent six hours with your underwear on backwards?

The sniff test is a quintessential part of deciding whats clean and what isn't. If it doesn't smell, it must be clean. FWIW, I got into an argument recently about the cleanliness of towels. I figure you only use a towel when you're fresh out of the shower and the cleanest you'll be all day...

Hurricane Hunting in a Lear Jet

I’ve topped some pretty serious weather in a Lear. No idea how high a hurricane goes up to, but 45k will clear you above 90% of CBs

    Flying with low/flat strut

We have a member here who did an emergency takeoff when the airport he was at started getting mortared. FWIW, don’t fly with that flat strut. Pipers have enough issues with their spars as-is. I would feel MUCH better with a flat nose strut than a flat wing strut in a piper.

    Starting round engines

Was told to pump the throttle. Lol

    Starting round engines

Thats significantly different than my start in the beaver. 10 (IIRC) pumps of the primer and a couple pumps of the throttle. Always started on the second or third blade. I did the same thing for the 1340 in the Norseman and it seemed to like that too.

I wonder if anyone has done the statistics on age and accident rate. I’m guessing there’s a reason insurance companies won’t touch people over 75.

    Any Career CFI's?

There’s a lot of 135 “teaching” jobs. That’s essentially what I have become even if accidentally. I work 15/15 and am home in my own bed every night. I pretty much just do new-hire training, checkrides, IOE, special airport checkouts, and maybe a few hours of line flying a month.

According to FB, the pilot reported control issues. Sounds like the plane hadn’t flown for nearly a year.

    Test your Taste

Interesting, cilantro does taste soapy to me and I don’t like Bell Peppers either. As for oddball things I do like….anything umami flavored. I’ll eat a jar of anchovies in a sitting on saltine crackers. I put truff hot sauce on everything. I make truffle oil burgers w/ aged white cheddar for...
