Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

Bryan, I'm happy that you asked the very question I had in mind but thought that it might be too silly. That. I thought that the key USP of helicopters is that that they can stay up without moving forward!? Why not 'stop' or at least go very slow and figure things out? Can a helicopter...

    Buying a HANGAR?

Considering the high rent in your area, this might make sense. 10 years down the road, you however might or might not be able to rent our your own hangar for $750 or recover your investment: At least in our area, most aircraft owners are WELL into their retirement with very few younger pilots...

    Other countries other than USA

Seems like you are right. I thought that a sport pilot would still need a medical to start with the training and that only later on a driver’s license would be sufficient. However, even the training can be completed with the driver’s license alone, assuming a medical has never been denied...

    Other countries other than USA

You could fly ultralights or gliders, including motor-gliders. None of them requires a medical.

What Order: AP, Navigator, Engine Monitor

Contrary to the 830, the 930 is a primary engine monitor and allows you to remove all of your old instruments.

HOW NOT TO LAND A MOONEY

It continues to puzzle me why people think that Mooneys are hard to land. I have no experience with the newer models, but my wife as well as I both find our M20E, with its smooth and direct controls, to be one of the easiest planes to land: I fly the final approach at 80 mph, full flaps, and...

Lancair pilot takes shot at 58 year old record

This guy also flew in 1959 in a Comanche non-stop 7,668 miles from Morocco to Los Angeles! The Plane was loaded 2,000 lb over gross: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Conrad

Be very careful flying into Germany from outside the EU

You (and the guy who deleted his anti-German comment) might want to elaborate on what would happen to a foreign pilot, who enters the US and who lands at a US airport that is not a port of entry? Hint: Prison(!!!) of up to 1 year might be the result of one of the several violations...

Be very careful flying into Germany from outside the EU

Reading through the linked thread, I am under the impression that this was a combination of unfortunate timing (the status of the airport changed but the AIP wasn't updated yet and that he failed to comply with the the requirements in the AIP (call customs or police 24 h in advance). If he would...

Stingy millennials to blame for sluggish economy

We went to a RV show last Friday: You can even finance a relativeley cheap $14k travel trailer over 15 years(!!!) and it seems that people are actually doing that. By the time it's paid off, they will have paid roughly twice the original price! Talking to some of the sales guys, I gained the...

    6y9 Fly In 2019

Why not? North Fox is 3,000 ft long, my wife was in the air after only around 1,000 ft, even though we were two adults and still had all the camping gear from the 6Y9 fly-in in the plane. The tanks were half full and it was pretty warm. By the time we were at the end of the runway, we were...

    Michigan registration sticker

Same here. We just put in the the registration sleeve. I'm thinking that in the unlikely event that we get ramp-checked, we can still put it on.

    Fly's under bridge in PA

It actually IS open to the public and not even included in the overlaying MOA. It is in close proximity of the L09 airstrip, if you want to look it up on a sectional. Here is a detailed description of the route...

How Well Do Experimental Aircraft hold their value?

True. It still appreciated, it just did not outperform inflation. The OP's point was what he should assume for the development an aircraft's value over a certain period of time. If he buys today a RV-10 for $175k and sells it in 10 year: Should he plan to get $100k or $200k for it? In my opinion...

How Well Do Experimental Aircraft hold their value?

Our Mooney M20E was around $24,000 back in 1966. Today, you'd be hard pressed to find any decent M20E for under $60k. So yes, I would agree with the OPs statement that historically certified planed tend to appreciate. It's the upkeep that makes them a bad investment.

    6y9 Fly In 2019

Sorry to hear. :( Good luck for the surgery. I'm sure there will be another opportunity to meet again. :) Very cool! Will you come all the way from Anchorage? We were there just a few weeks ago for some bush flying training and are planning to fly to AK next year ourselves. Oliver
