Flight Plan Filed -- Told to Expect Different Route

I know what's "normal" in IFR flying varies from region to region so YMMV, but near Houston where I live, I don't think I've ever flown exactly the route I was initially given (whether or not it was the route I initially filed). Over time I have learned where I am likely to get "shortcuts"...

    DPE PPL price

Huh. I met my DPE for my IR checkride on a day that was not favorable for flying (t-storms in the area). We knocked out the oral portion, then he looked at me and said, "So are you ready to fly?" I told him that while it was legal to fly, and that I really wanted to fly, I did not think it...

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

Yes, those are the only two ways to skin a cat. There's no possible other option.

How to Make an Offer Letter?

Somewhere in a file cabinet I have the sheet of yellow legal pad paper where the seller scratched out a basic bill of sale document that we both signed. The key enforcement that the transaction would be successful was that my funds were in escrow until the plane showed up at my hangar a few...

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

If only there were some way to access information like that with a few keypresses. Like maybe on the internet. I wonder if someone might one day come up with a tool where you could type in a word and see what the Internet has to say about it? In the meantime, you can rely on the kindness of...

How to Make an Offer Letter?

I negotiated the price verbally, and then the seller wrote a basic bill of sale out in print with a ballpoint pen on a yellow legal pad and we both signed it. Might make a lawyer cringe, but it worked for us. He ran a flight school, and I was a complete stranger to him who flew across the...

    Why haven't you been to a POA fly-in ?

I'm within striking distance of Gaston's, but I always assumed that a jillion planes converging on what seems to be a pretty small patch of grass would be more commotion than I would want to deal with. I avoid pancake fly-ins and poker runs for similar reasons. But then my introverted self...

Great article on how Boeing has failed

Hah! Apparently, I shouldn't do the math! Thanks for the correction.

Great article on how Boeing has failed

It's been a long time since Boeing designed an actually new airplane. The 777 started carrying passengers 29 years ago, and the 787 did so six years later. Everything since then has been a variant of an existing model.

Will Garmin up their game to 12” displays?

I guess it depends on what you consider to be "more real estate". My definition is that I can put more information on the screen. If all that's happening is magnifying what's on a 10" display so that it takes up 12" instead (which is what happens if the resolution remains the same), then to...

    Headset Evaluation

YMMV. I don't have that problem. The mic sits in front of my lips just like any other headset. I do use a mic muff (leather bag that slides over the mic, with a small hole in it). Does a reasonable job of filtering out ambient noise. But I started using that with my old DCs and just carried...

My recommendation for Jeff Kling still holds.

    Headset Evaluation

YMMV, but I agree with both of these. I fly in the south where it's hot and have used the QT Halos for ~10 years with great satisfaction. There are multiple eartip options that all have their pros/cons, and some folks don't find any of them to be acceptable. In my case I'd use any of the...

    Night currency

Okay, I guess that's nifty. But if the OP is staring at that info while flying the pattern instead of...well, flying the pattern, then perhaps that's part of his problem. Like you, I just point my airplane where it needs to be pointed so that it goes where I want it to go. If I'm 20 deg...

    Night currency

What do you have that's constantly measuring your winds?? What about winds aloft bothers you during night flight that doesn't apply during daytime flying?

Deltahawk update from S&F looks good!

Yes, there is some of that. But I really don't think you could relax the regulations enough to lower that financial barrier to new entries to the market, without seeing impacts to safety that would cause those new entries to quickly exit the market due to liabilities incurred via wrongful death...
