    WWII warbirds.

Hey, if we're dreaming, put me down for an F7F Tigercat. Bearcats are amazing, but whats better than an R2800? I dunno...maybe TWO? And then I woke up and realized the 100LL bills would be more than my mortgage and the oil burns faster than my 172 burns mogas...

Do I need to be an A&P to install intercom jacks?

Looks like I can use a splitter to send two jacks to the back seat. Its kinda janky having wires all over the place but I like saving $2k (quoted estimate) more than I dislike the extension cords. Thanks for the input guys!

Do I need to be an A&P to install intercom jacks?

Hello- Im about to pull the trigger on a 172B. Its pretty squared away except theres only intercom jacks for the front. If I want to replace the ash trays with intercom plugs, do I need to pay an A&P or can I DIY? FWIW, Ive wired lots of automotive abd household stuff and I've yet to let...

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

Ugh. Beautiful plane. Nothing like polished aluminum! I hope they all make a full recovery. Even DG! Hows the tree? I guess it won.

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I thought the clairvoyants on this forum determined that the plane crashed because Dan Gryder was on it? He calls himself Probable Cause, right? Or is that just my conspiracy theory?

Would cranking for 10 seconds with the mixture in idle cut off pre oil the engine?

Agreed. The difference in lubrication between fuel off cranking and just starting it would be negligible if even measurable.

Would cranking for 10 seconds with the mixture in idle cut off pre oil the engine?

I would think that cranking the engine with no fuel until oil pressure comes up would do nearly as much damage as if it fired up right away. The engine still compresses air, which forces the dry rod bearings against the dry crankshaft and the dry crankshaft is grinding and wiggling around in...

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

No, no, no! Anything the "experts" say is the truth! Nevermind the man behind the curtain....

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

If the left brake stuck or the right brake failed, would a tailwheel locked in the centerline position, on a grass surface, have prevented the crash as depicted? I dont multi or tailwheel, just asking because I dont know. Not trying to start a conspiracy theory or anything...

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I wouldnt say I'm a fan of Alex Jones nor Dan Gryder. Theyre both trying to make money by presenting their analysis of current events. Sometimes they exaggerate, sometimes even defame, like many talking heads in all sorts of media. They raise questions I cant immediately answer or never...

    Dan Gryder Lockheed Electra Crash

I dont mind DG. Sure, he's a bit of a blow-hard, but his analysis is thought provoking. I see value in disagreeing with or doubting so-called "experts" and doing my own research to confirm or disprove their claims. If everyone in the echo chamber nods in agreement, we dont learn anything nor...

    Yeah probably the safest way^^^

Airplane as a business expense/deduction/write off, whatever?

I do. Maybe its foolish, but I'm more worried about the IRS than the FAA. I'm definitely inclined to do it all by the book, because if anybody will get jammed up for something, its me. I've been audited by the IRS twice already and they are a nightmare to deal with. Watching Trent Palmer's...

Airplane as a business expense/deduction/write off, whatever?

Okay...so private pilots who enjoy an IRS tax deduction are in violation with the FAA, but once I get a Commercial ticket I'm okay with both agencies? What a mess! I guess I need another 90 hours before we try any of this...

Airplane as a business expense/deduction/write off, whatever?

Yeah, some agencies pay a stipend, others dont. Obviously anything covered by the stipend wouldnt be a deduction.

    Weather station for backyard strip?

We have had a wireless home weather station for about 8 years. Bought at costco, Accurite brand. It was neat to see the highs and lows, wind speeds, pressure trends, etc. but the years in the weather took their toll on the outdoor measuring unit and the plastic housing failed, causing the...

    Converting Certified to Experimental

I would argue that an owner should be able to completely switch from certified to owner-maintained, with the understanding that it could never go back. You wouldnt want to buy a certified airplane that was experimental for a while but switched back to certified with no idea who did what to it...

Yeah. The B model has better cupholders, chrome exhaust tips and air conditioned seats. Totally worth it!
