Tailwheel time...does it matter what its in?

If my homebrew affordaplane winged lawn chair has half of a VW up front and a surplus APU turbine pushing, why couldnt I log turbine time? Assuming I didnt burst into flames?

Tailwheel time...does it matter what its in?

Probably a good thing i dont have more free time. Red Green show and aviation are probably not a good combination.

Couple of kayaks and some ratchet straps....my mind is a raging torrent, filled with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives! I'll be qualified for the Grumman Goose in no time!

Tailwheel time...does it matter what its in?

Yes! I've been looking at that! If I build two of them and join them in the middle like a P-82 twin mustang, we can build multi time on the cheap!

I agree^^^. If only insurance companies saw it that way. Insurance makes everything more difficult.

Great feedback...thanks! He's loading now and loves it. He's even selling his motorcycles to help get qualified in a tailwheel, and the "flying lawn chair" might be his next step.

IFR and cost and future plans

I bought an ifr capable straight back 172 with an adequate but unimpressive panel. My son is using it for his private and the plan is for both of us to do instrument together after his private. Once we're both IFR we'll either upgrade to a bigger/faster or I'll just finish my Zenith 801, sell...

    Auto conversion ideas

Now Im curious about how much of an improvement is made by only adding a constant speed prop? Werent there some Beech Sierra/Musketeer etc that were made with same airframe and horsepower but some fixed and others constant speed? I'd love to build a test stand to work on this but im better off...

Would static thrust be a better way to quantify engine/propeller performance? I'd love to see a H295 vs H250 vs H700 comparison in static thrust.

Reading about how 85 horsepower turns a 9' propeller with apparent success has me wondering how many GA aircraft are fitted with a less than optimal prop.

Thats incredible! I knew the Helio prototype started out as a vagabond but I didnt realize it had a wildly modified C-85. Very impressive!

Tailwheel time...does it matter what its in?

Agreed! Some of the farmers Ive talked with are convinced that drones will take over the industry. I'm hoping he has a plan B. Hopefully something involving free airfare for my wife and I!

Okay i'm sure they are different. 160-180hp under constant-ish load vs 200-300-400hp under varying loads. But isnt the Robinson helicopter turning a much larger rotor AND tail rotor and demanding more torque on the belts than a proportionately sized propeller? Looking at the Helio Courier...

    Auto conversion ideas

Robinson helicopters seem to have success with multiple v belts. I'd either need double the belts with double the horsepower or half the lifespan. With a properly designed psru, belts and pulleys could be inspected and changed easily and frequently.

The company he works for uses turbine Air Tractors.

I'll look into the glider operations nearby. I'd love a 170 or 180 but the insurance cost might take the fun out of it for the foreseeable future. If I could afford it, I'd have a Helio courier in the back yard.
