    Changing an E-AB after certification

I emailed David Maytag suggesting the Helio Courier be reintroduced as a kit, but he never got back to me....

    Changing an E-AB after certification

Bushliner Cyclone is awesome, arguably better than its certified Cessna muse, but still ridonkulously expensive at $310k without an engine and an optimistic 1500 hours of assembly. I think theres a lot of room for improvement.

    Changing an E-AB after certification

I think thats an excellent idea, and technology keeps trickling down to the hobbyist level to make it more widely attainable. I imagine certified stuff could be scanned, copied, tweaked as necessary and then 3D models printed, either as ready to use parts or even foam forms to be overlaid with...

    Changing an E-AB after certification

Good info thanks! I need to become more familiar with the registration process and the FARs before i craft a certified parts workaround.

    Changing an E-AB after certification

When your experimental, amateur built aircraft is inspected and registered with FAA as an experimental, what obligation does one have to inform the FAA of a significant modification? If its all kit parts when certified, does replacing, say, the wings with certified Cessna wings, require...

    Auto conversion ideas

I love the diesel idea and I think about it more than i probably should. First concern is horsepower to weight ratio. That might not be as concerning as I think, since the lower peak horsepower is typically accompanied by higher torque numbers. Would that allow a bigger prop to produce more...

    Airspeed indicator suggestions

Well, the pilot is my 17 year old son. Student pilot. Every flight "without incident" is one I'm thankful for, especially with a potentially distracting mechanical failure. Its a good experience for him and it wont be the last with our "antique" airplane.

AOG for over a year and waiting on a conti crankshaft - Boeing has missed three "guaranteed" ship dates

Is there an STC for an engine without parts availability issues? I cant imagine how frustrating that is. As if I needed more inspiration to go experimental!

    Airspeed indicator suggestions

Apparently the mechanic disconnected the pitot and blew it out but didnt find an obstruction. My kid was watching and said the asi pegged as soon as it was disconnected. Unfortunately I was at work. I was glad to hear that although he was concerned about the faulty gage, he could judge an...

I called several shops including AQI but no rebuilds in stock. Any shops youd recommend?

    Airspeed indicator suggestions

My son took our 172B up to practice slow flight before his check ride and on climbout, he noticed the airspeed bouncing between 0 and 40 knots. He turned around and landed without incident and the A&P on the field ruled out a blockage or leak in the pitot/static system, recommending we replace...

    Dyno Don Flies

Thats incredible. My takeaway? Start sooner! A huge project like that would be so much sweeter if i could finish it before Im too old to fly. Not that Don is too old or even close, but if it took him a dozen years, I could expect twice that thanks to my personality flaws!

Get A&P license to maintain own Airplane

Im so grateful to have my 172 and I cant wait to finish my zenith and sell the 172 for this exact issue. Never thought I'd have choices like this to make!

    Compression too high?

If he's gonna be fussy about you using a different mechanic, that doesnt exactly encourage you to hire him. Trying to confuse you about the compression numbers seems like a bad move.

    Question about twin engine design

Thats pretty cool. Just flying it back to Idaho would be 1/10 of the time he needs!

    Question about twin engine design

Youre probably right. We are using our 172 for my son to get his private, then both of us want to get instrument rated in it. He wants to be an ag pilot, and he's been told that he needs at least 500 hours of tailwheel time. Spending $50k on luscombe rental isnt an option. We're thinking of...

    Question about twin engine design

Yeah its definitely out-of-the-box thinking, but if its not a complete death trap, it could be better than renting a proper certified twin for building time. I would definitely get my multi rating in something normal before I tried to fly it.
