Airplane as a business expense/deduction/write off, whatever?

I searched the forum but couldnt find anything. Im building a kit but considering the purchase of an old 172 to fly until the kit is done and hopefully get instrument rated along the way. We arent super rich, but we try to limit our tax liability whenever possible and clearly legal. My wife...

    Worst case scenario?

Okay good info thanks! Seems like a reasonable precaution to get the most out of the engine.

    Worst case scenario?

    Oooh that would be bad.

    Worst case scenario?

If I pull the trigger, I'm adding a spin on filter. Do I have to pay a shop to do it or can I DIY at the oil change?

    Worst case scenario?

Thanks for the input! The plane is IFR equipped and I plan on using it to get my rating and help my kids build time and ratings for their careers. Spontaneous day trips are very appealing too, without fussing over rentals. Insurance quote is $1500/year. I think my wife's car is more than that!

    Worst case scenario?

Hahaha yes I do. This plane and a potential overhaul would be a yuuge expense for us, as in just doable. I'd hate for bad news from the A&P to precipitate a chest clutching end to my medical certificate, and moving into this plane would be only slightly better than the dog house....

    Worst case scenario?

Hey kids- Im considering the purchase of an experienced 172....1961 model. It appears to be in great shape. Needs an annual and probably a major overhaul in 1000 hours or less. I can probably handle that if I can get it at the right price, but an acquaintance of mine has his 182 in the shop...

    Continental IO-360 for experimental

It would be going on a Zenith 801. Im aware of a Franklin mount, so I'd be surprised if theres no mount for the Continental.

    Continental IO-360 for experimental

I gather they can be expensive for certified aircraft, but would experimental category make this a viable alternative to the Lycoming 360? I think I'm sold on the franklin 220, but it seems like there are a lot of these Continentals out there for cheap, at least compared to the lycomings which...

    Holding the Brakes

Whenever youre standing around not doing anything (standing in line etc.), try working your brake muscles by lifing your body weight. Just lift your heels off the ground like youre trying to be taller, up and down. Try to do it as many times a day as you can without anybody staring at you:)

Lots to consider that, apparently, many builders and dreamers don't.

    FIRSTHAND experience with Franklins

Okay okay thats enough! If you all keep raving about this engine, I wont be able to afford one by the time I'm ready to get one! I gotta resist the urge to get one now!

I need help. I want to get to 250 hours as efficiently as possible.

I got my ppl in 1997 and only logged 160 since then. I've always wanted a bush plane, and now i live in a place with enough bush of my own to operate and store said bush plane. I also have two kids who want to be professional pilots, so I've decided to build a Zenith 801 and equip it for ifr...

    FIRSTHAND experience with Franklins

Wow good stuff! Thanks for taking the time to fill me in! Its a shame they arent more popular. That seems to be the biggest strike against it so far.

    FIRSTHAND experience with Franklins

Im curious about the 1500 hour tbo of the franklin. How does the real-world longevity compare to a lycoming? If i gotta replace jugs left and right, 4 might be better than 6 unless the sleevable Franklin is cheaper to do than a lycoming. Experimental vs certified has to make a difference too.

Black "Rubberish" Corrosion on Antenna Connector

Lacquer thinner should remove about any petroleum products. Xylene is probably safer than MEK, which is what I used as a kid working in a restoration shop. Maybe thats why my hair fell out ...

Enough jobs for the student pilot population?

Watching this for my kids sake. 16 year old and 11 year old both want to be professional pilots. Plan is for my oldest to be private-instrument-commercial-cfi by age 18 with lots of time in our back yard bushplane. Hopefully getting paid to fly something as soon as age allows, and maybe start...
