Wake Turbulence: Small behind a Large

Ha! Are you suggesting to shoot the gap? :)

    ADs, Flight Schools, and Checkrides

I think you are right about that particular line in the ACS, but the DPE might see it as part of their due diligence for taking a flight in an unknown aircraft. In that case it could be grounds for a discontinuance of the exam (not necessarily disapproval). Also, a few lines up from Walboys...

    ADs, Flight Schools, and Checkrides

Can I ask what level of detail your applicants go into with their AD lists? Do you just get the list from maintenance or do you literally search every applicance on the plane by serial number and build an AD packet to cross reference?

    Tankless water heaters

We have a tankless in our apartment. My only gripe is the way the temperature is controlled. On our unit (Navien) the heater come on when it senses water flowing. If you are running hot water on a very low flow rate heater won't get triggered. This leads to your hot water turning into ice cold...

    ADs, Flight Schools, and Checkrides

It's called the FAA DRS. It won't filter by serial number but third party software like the one in the podcast will do that ("ADToolbox": $500/yr subscription according to the host). I'll contact the school about that! If I could just get a copy of that document I think I will be golden.

Oops didn't see your previous post. Good info!

Wake Turbulence: Small behind a Large

I thought this is the old "rate of climb" vs "angle of climb" discussion. No sane person would claim a GA aircraft can climb faster, but I thought they do climb steeper than the large and heavy guys. Too tired right now but I think some simple math will confirm this using published rate of...

    ADs, Flight Schools, and Checkrides

This is a two part question on ADs. The questions came to me while I was listening to the VSL podcast which is hosted by a DPE and flight school owner. First question: should I prepare a docket of ADs for a PPL checkride broken down by airframe, engine, prop, and accessory like this DPE...

Wake Turbulence: Small behind a Large

Good points. Do you make any special adjustments if following a large on approach to land? The recommended separation there is 4 nm, but I don't even use an EFB (yet - working on it) so I'm just eyeballing everything.

Wake Turbulence: Small behind a Large

Hello, Just reading AIM section 7-4-9 and noticed there is no guidance for a small taking off behind a large, if both are making a normal departure from the threshold. This is a common situation I encounter at my home base, and usually I just hit the gas when ATC releases me. However, it is a...

Why are people still wearing masks?

I never used to mask up for allergies - but when N95s were mandated in our office I noticed a big difference. Now I only wear one on the most severe days. The little rectangle ones don't help for me - has to be one which makes a decent seal.

Why are people still wearing masks?

There is a lot of non-verbal communication which happens between your eyes and your chin. I'm not saying it is absolutely of greater value than people's health concerns, but there is a trade off. I remember the day when we were allowed to demask in the office, it was really nice to see...

Why are people still wearing masks?

Forgot about allergies. N95 mask is a game changer in the spring.

Why are people still wearing masks?

I understand for traveling commercial - especially if you are going to visit someone who is high risk (elderly parents / grandparents). But there appears to be a large number of seemingly healthy young people still wearing masks doing everyday things or even at work. Genuinely curious what the...

172N EPs: Master vs Radio vs Avionics power switch

Fair enough. I still have paranoid student pilot brain.

172N EPs: Master vs Radio vs Avionics power switch

To be fair this is a 172N POH off the web (link) - but I'm pretty sure the one at my school reads the same.

172N EPs: Master vs Radio vs Avionics power switch

Right - I always forget about IMC as a VFR only flyer! In that case it makes sense. But on a clear weather VFR day I think I'll keep the radios on long enough to tell someone where to find me then turn them off.

172N EPs: Master vs Radio vs Avionics power switch

Hello, I think this is a simple question but just want to confirm... Going through the 172N EPs, specifically "Electrical Fire in Flight". In the procedure they distinguish between three switches for which I can only find two. This is my understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong: "Master...

    The MyFlightBook thread

Sorry if this has been asked already - but how are flight instructor signatures handled when porting to other e-flightbooks? Does the actual signature image get transferred too? Let's just say Foreflight or any of the most popular books since I'm sure the answer depends on which software.
