Is carb heat really necessary when 80F?

Fun experiment: Take a can of soda out of the cooler and walk directly to the ramp and set it it down. Wait 30 seconds. The amount of water that what you thought was dry air that forms on its surface will scare you to death.

IFR training pilot cannot fly level and straight ... when changing radio frequency or briefing plate

Three seconds is a long time. Let me stick my finger in your eyeball and hold it there for one full second. Bob Gardner

How reliable will ATC vector you around thunderstorms?

You are the PIC, right? Tell the controller what you need. ATC will not make these decisions for you.

    Crosswind landings

I graduated five wheelchair pilots...one got his commercial. Using a hand control worked for them. I had them make the initial runway contact on the upwind wheel only, trundling along on the upwind tire until the correction aileron lost its eff.ect.

IFR training pilot cannot fly level and straight ... when changing radio frequency or briefing plate

Trim for hands=off level flight at chosen airspeed. Take your hands off of the yoke and maintain wings-level with light rudder pressure. You should be able to hold heading and altitude for two or three minutes if you let the trim knob alone

Best way to get to atp (or at least cfi) as cheap as possible?

Back in the olden days, when I was a DPE for commercial pilot applicants, the first question I asked was “With this certificate in your pocket, what kinds of operation will you be able to get paid for?” Many had never heard of Part119. and were confused about Part135.

    Declared First Emergency

Good job! NEVER fail to dmeclare an emergency Doing so removes the regulatory handccuffs from both pilot and controller. Declared twice, paperwork zero.

Ice equipment necessary for middle altitude flying?

Adding on to Ghery’s post: Flying in western Washingon to the east side teaches valuable lessons. First determine the freezing level using your favorite method. Then fly WEST until you are at or above that level, then turn east and soar over the mountains in the clear. This does not work so well...

    Unable to Solo, Advice needed

For what it is worth, i never did touch-and-goes with a pre-solo student but insisted on full-stops and taxi back with me doing the taxiing and discussing what has just happened. The human brain can only handle so many sensory inputs at once, and making the student responsible for a safe landing...

IFR Current - Spacial D freakout

It is surprising how many of the flight instruments (not the power instruments over on the right side of the panel) you can see with peripheral vision with your head facing forward and only your eyes moving. It is equally amazing how, with a little practice, you can reach/manipulate...

Flying to My First Towered Airport Tomorrow

" not using the right phraseology....." From AIM 4-2-1(b): "Since concise phraseology may not always be adequate, use whatever words are necessary to get your message across." So, "Tower, Bugsmasher 1234X. Mother and I are planning to take advantage of this nice weather and fly down to...

    Seaplane endorsement?

ASES is a rating, not an endorsement (checkride with a DE required, but no written) for private pilots. I got my introduction to aviation (and soloed) on floats in Juneau. When I got back to the lower 48 I added float time but switched to wheels and got certificated as ASEL. I accumulated a...

    Dual cross country before solo?

"Official" gets into Part 141 territory, because when the FAA designates a school as 141 it approves the syllabus as part of the whole package. There are many syllabi available...Sporty's and www.asa2fly.com would be good places to start your search....and of course you can make up your own...
