    1975 Cessna 172M - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Calling all A&P Types

I have the HE cooler he is referring too but it made zero change in mind.

    1975 Cessna 172M - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Calling all A&P Types

That’s the cooler I have. I’m thinking about switching to the 8 row. I have a 79’ with a O360 and it’s had a 8row added to it somewhere along the line and it behaves wonderfully. I understand it’s a totally different setup, but it still does good and uses the original shroud with a little...

    1975 Cessna 172M - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Calling all A&P Types

I remember reading this as well in the manual but I could have swore, at the end of the day it had been superseded at some point, my serial is 12766669. I tested the and checked the vernatherm, it’s seating, and all was well. Talking about 2 different engines as well. I guess the part that I...

    Magnetos

The kit is $400 per mag, and you still have to do the labor. For some folks it’s not a big deal but I don’t get extra value out of it. Both times it seemed to be the coil acting up, so that’s more $$. Mileage varies, I’ve taken them to 1000 with no issue, I just personally go at 700. Arrest...

    Magnetos

I’m not sure it really does increase costs the way you think. I run a school and it’s $8xx a mag from spruce, getting them rebuilt isn’t much cheaper from what I’ve found and I’ve had two only last 300 hours after a 500 service. Downtime costs way more than a few extra bucks up front.

    Lightspeed Delta Zulu

I was interested until I saw it was just a smidge heavier than the regular Zulu’s. I have all Lightspeeds but after flying with Bose too, I finally can say I notice the small weight difference after a few hours a day.

    1975 Cessna 172M - Lycoming O-320-E2D - Calling all A&P Types

My 76’ E2D 172 is the same way, between 2 engines. I’ve checked the vermatherm… I’ve put oil on a hot plate and dunked the sensor and used a digital thermocouple to read the temp and compare to the gauge, it’s accurate within 5 degrees I’d say. Good Oil Cooler Baffles Good Carb Box Good...

Lycoming O320’s, I pull the slicks at 700 hours and just exchange for new ones.

    Skip Oil filter change

I routinely do 100 hour oil changes every 5 weeks. Great oil sample data, if you’re flying often, I wouldn’t worry about it. A/S 15w-50.

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

In my case, the mag check at various RPM’s was satisfactory, as well as an in air check. We didn’t disassemble the mag, just box up it up as a core and swapped it out. It did take care of it though. Thanks for all of the comments!

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

Looks like it probably had something to do with the impulse coupling, swapped the mag out and all is well with the world! In good old fashion Aviation fashion though, fix one problem and get another. The old trusty Garmin 430 Decided it wanted to not read the aviation database anymore and...

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

I’ll report back. I just wanted a good pool of thoughts as I’ve thought of many of the basics as well as my other mechanic and it’s good to think outside the box…. This is going to sound horrible, but I’m going to double check the P-Leads, being reversed may also be the issue.

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

That’s a good thought! I have 2 new mags in the box, I could always try another impulse mag. We have checked the timing at the first oil change and it was still spot on. I was just reading through the slick mag issue. I’ve seen more new mags fail then mags with a few hundred hours on them...

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

It turns over good, with new solenoids, and such so I don’t think it’s going to be that, but may be. The old engine had 5000 hours on it, and didn’t care wether it was hot or cold. It’s a Lycoming factory engine, new carb, new mags, etc. Seems to be progressively getting worse though, when we...

    Carbed Lycoming Starting Issue

I’ve got a new, carbed O-360 with about 50 hours on it. It’s got to where it doesn’t want to start vary easily, cold or hot. I’ve got a hot battery and fresh starter. Im starting to think I might have an ignition key issue? It seems like many times as soon as you let off the starter switch...

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

I’m mostly talking about not being able to easily drag the nav radios into a second monitor with buttons, etc. The database updates are not a big issue at all. The days of the 2d panels are much easier to do that with, I think anyway.

    MSFS2020 Disappointment thread

I find the biggest downfall is the lack of continuity from previous versions. A completely remapped keyboard layout and UI, and then the lack of being able to use it like an actual sim with ease of dual monitors, independent windows with functionality, etc. While overseas, I literally taught...

    Do Yuou Self Insure

I own a flight school and I may only carry liability insurance after next year and self insure the aircraft hulls. 3 172’s are running 20,000 a year.
