Thanks for the insight on that!

Own a Flight School or Rental Business? Leaseback Rant!

Yea, I guess maybe I’m just an odd duck. I feel like owning my own aircraft makes me feel the way I do. A lease back potentially pulls hours from a more profitable aircraft percentage wise. Silly insurance is always my grip. If I didn’t have to spend $10k on insurance for an experiment to...

Own a Flight School or Rental Business? Leaseback Rant!

FBO / Airport Standards are often an issue. Maybe it’s because I own my own aircraft instead of leasing them. I just don’t feel like it’s worth the hassle of expensive insurance, and maintenance to rent at a reduced number of hours compared to a fleet of more modest priced 172’s at higher...

Own a Flight School or Rental Business? Leaseback Rant!

Does anyone else with an aviation business constantly get barraged with people asking you to lease back their airplanes? All I want to do is just shake them and say no for the 100th time. It’s always some high dollar airplane too. SR22, Glass 182, Diamond, etc. I own my own aircraft...

    Pickup Truck Thoughts

No one has really talked about to 3.0L diesel from GM. I absolutely love my crew cab, standard bed Silverado. So much more truck than a normal 1500.

    Engine

Order your engine 8 months before you think you want to change it. A firewall forward with be around $45k but that’s just a guess. I purchased a overhauled o-360-A4M from the factory for $29,000 in Sept of 2020 and it delivered in March. At the time I also planned it 8 months so all went very...

Got “thrown out” of an airport today

Jeez, I needed a good thread to get me sleepy. I’m in the club of mind your own business on this one. “If” this and “but” that. Stay in your own lane. Taking and posting video is beyond unreasonable. If you have ever went over the speed limit, or rolled a stop sign then you’ve broken more...

    No oil filters available.....

Very true, you never know the urgency but that’s up to the pilot to not freak out. You’re correct though, I haven’t seen a piston helicopter engine with one. I know years ago I remember seeing spruce had one available that you could put on an engine. I’ve personally never seen enough metal...

Sluggy oil leak? Crankseal leak again?

Nothing wrong with doing it 3 times or 10. I think people often over due it in the sense of pulling it back and being slow to return it. No need to lug the engine down, just a quick cycle to drop 150 or so does the same and is easier overall on everything.

    No oil filters available.....

I think it comes down to how long is it taking you to fly off those hours, how well do you know your engine, and if it makes you feel better and you do the 50 hour oil change, checking the sump screen and send a sample off. So people it takes a year to fly that 100 hours off, weeks for...

    No oil filters available.....

I’ve been running filters to 100 hours for the last year or a little longer. Roughly 2000 hours among 3 airplanes with no negative issues and good oil sample returns.

How are jet routes determined when no preferred/recent routes exist?

Just file direct, they will tell you what they want if needed lol… Do this on the regular.

    FAA Extending Aircraft Re-Registration Interval

Absolutely! We are sorry, it took us 8 months to discover the sell forgot a comma, or whoops they left of LLC. We are going to mail that back to you, make you write it in there, and mail it back, we’ll will finalize that in about 3 more months.

    Garmin Terrain Warnings

Is anyone an expert in reference to the GTN750/G500 Terrain system? Maybe a secret system setup menu that allows you to customize the altitudes at which you get alerted for terrain and obstacles hazard. I routinely have to fly low for work, and I really like having terrain enabled, mostly for...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

I get how it all works, seen it and been around it many times. Doesn’t change the fact it makes me angry. There’s not an attack on his character here either.

    B17 crash at Dallas.

I have others disagree, but this wasn’t formation, it was just chaos. Loosely organized chaos.

    B17 crash at Dallas.

After seeing the video of the midair I question so many things. I fly formation quite a bit and honestly I’m not sure how you screw up that bad. It was like a AIM-120 locked on target. Unbelievable.

    Piper SAIB Wing Spar

No matter what though, it’s a horrible design compared to so many other wing attachments on other aircraft. My opinion, which isn’t worth anything.

uAvionix skyBeacon: A false sense of security?

I just tested my 3 planes. 1 Tail-Beacon, 1 GDL82, and 1 Lynx. All came back with good results. The tail beacon has been installed for 2 years, and had about 2000 hours put on it roughly. Hadn’t checked the report since it was installed. All 3 sit outside as well, the TB hasn’t leaked...
