    Brain fart

Yesterday I flew out of Palo Alto, CA, and asked for flight following to Klamath Falls (my refueling stop on the way home) via SUNOL, an intersection that's a good place to aim for leaving the crazy airspace of the San Francisco Bay. Ground asked for the identifier for Klamath Falls, and I...

[NA] Help me plan a European Christmas vacation

Salzburg, Austria. I spent a magical Christmas there many years ago. One of my fondest memories. Even if you aren't Catholic, go to the midnight mass in the magnificent cathedral.

"Your order is ready at locker number 5. Text 'here' when you arrive."

This is one of many reasons I'm glad I live in a relatively rural area. None of this nonsense anywhere near where I live. Yet. I was talking with my brother about newspapers. I had part of a Wall Street Journal that I was finishing and he commented on the fact that I still read physical...

Why no name for the Cessna 310?

According to Wikipedia, you're right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_King#Aircraft

how much confidence do you have in fuel gauges?

I have the opposite problem. When mine read low, the tanks aren't. But I'd rather have that problem than ones that read like they have too much gas in them. On the other hand, it's kind of annoying to feel like I have to land to refuel when in fact I still have a couple hours' flying time...

    [NA] Spicy Food Thread

I ate at one of those a few years ago. Sick as a dog for a couple of days afterward and not, I suspect, because the food was spicy, since I eat spicy food all the time.

FWIW, I'm allergic to all opiates and their derivatives, so once the pain-killer he injected directly into the knee when it was still open (I don't know what it was, but it lasted a couple of days), I had to get by with an acetaminophen/ibuprofen combo recommended by my doc. It was...

Air Venture 2022, where are you?

Still in Idaho, more's the pity.

These experiences aren't typical, as you might have gathered from the other posts. Are you popping pain pills now because your knees hurt? Of course, everyone's calculation of the balance between ongoing pain, post-surgical pain, and remaining life is going to be different.

Back Country..how many of you go there?

Oh, it's back country all right. It's about as back country as you can get in Idaho. OK, OK, I'll end the suspense. It's Taylor Ranch. With my connection to University of Idaho, I had no trouble getting permission to land there.

Those are pretty sweet, but useless for anything else. I just used the long, thin, flexible refreezable ice packs. Useful for all kinds of things once you don't need them for your knees any more. For example, I used one last night to calm down some horrible, itchy insect bites enough so I...

According to my doc, that’s no longer true. My knee will outlive me, and I’m only 71.

    Do you name your plane?

This halibut might seem small, but in fact it's considered good sized for this area (and limitations). One of four. We also got 10 salmon (8 coho, 2 pinks), 19 rockfish, 2 mackerel, 1 cod, and 5 Dungeness crabs. We'll be eating good starting tomorrow (when the processed/frozen goods arrive).

Sometimes the Universe gets things right

That's what a friend said when she found out where I hit 2500 hours total time logged. The back story: I belong to a group called the Cessna Pilots Society. We have a get together every year somewhere in the country except for the last two years because....covid. FINALLY we were able to get...

    Do you name your plane?

Summer is not over yet so, no. Besides, being semi-retired means that, work-wise, there is no summer. Actually in some ways I work MORE in the summer because that's when I do field work. I've been busy. Field work in Utah, Cessna Pilots Society get-together in KC, cruise in the Inside...
