    Bourbon

My ex-mother-in-law, who was from Texas, introduced me to bourbon and Dr Pepper. I haven't had it in a long time, but I was surprised it was as good as it was. Not horrible, as I expected. I took it to a horrible-foods potluck once, and it was a hit. (If you've never heard of a...

    Bourbon

Would someone kindly explain the difference between bourbon and American whiskey? The reason I ask is my favorite is called an American whiskey. It's Triple Smoke (can't remember the distillery name). The only Scotch I ever really loved isn't made any more. I'm hoarding a bottle, to be...

As the price of gas at the pump skyrockets

"Most of us"? Let's take a poll--how many people here have that option? I sure don't.

As the price of gas at the pump skyrockets

I just bought a car with remote start. It's really nice in the winter because it warms the interior and the engine before I even get in. But I learned, when I got delayed leaving once, that it stops itself after 10-15 minutes (not sure when it turned off).

    stupid war sustainability question

I particularly like "logistics life cycle" in the title. That pretty much says it all. My dad worked as an engineer for United Airlines. At one point in his career, he intersected with DoD (I don't remember why). He came back just shaking his head about the inefficiency (read: wasted money)...

    Dumb war question

This thread beautifully weaves together two improbable themes, war and interstates. I'm hearing a symphony with two themes woven together in point-counterpoint. Brad W, you must be under about 45 years old. It hasn't been called "the Ukraine" in more than 30 years, since it became...

    Dumb war question

It is supposed to be Ukraine. I think "the Ukraine" is a holdover from when it was part of the Soviet Union and was referred to as a region, not a country, sort of like "the Midwest". But as a country, it is known as Ukraine. I had a hard time switching over, too. I agree with the IPs...

Flying Magazine - newsletter and website are poor

What are you, a professor or something? I'm glad I have a PhD, or I'd probably have had to run to the dictionary, too. You sound suspiciously professorish, and I should know.

Not sure how this happened to me...

Yes, it is. I've been through that phase in years 5-13 of a 13-year marriage.

We need to have a discussion on the Ukraine...

It broke my heart to hear the Ukrainian foreign minister give one reason why Americans should care, that we keep our promises (see geezer's comments about the disarmament treaty with them). We don't. I got an earful about this from a Hungarian colleague who was old enough to remember when the...

    Taxes

I've been efiling for a lot of years, but I'm tempted this year to file a paper return because they're so slow to process returns, the money won't disappear from my account for a lot longer.

    Taxes

It's the money you loaned the government so they could get interest off it while they had it. I avoid them like the plague. To EdFred: Yeah, it's not a lot of interest, but it's the principle!
