    Blue Angels IMAX

Just finished watching it on Prime. It was decent but far more “intellectual” than “visual “, IMHO. We felt like not seeing it on IMAX didn’t cost us much experience-wise.

    Blue Angels IMAX

We just checked to see showtimes for today around Austin and it’s completely gone from here already! The nearest places are in San Antonio. BUT it’s streaming for “free” on Prime already. Not iMax but at least we can check it out at home. That was quick. And odd it’s “free”. They didn’t...

    Osh 2024 NOTAM is out

BTW: not in the NOTAM but the Mass Arrivals have a different schedule this year which will make things better, especially on Saturday: instead of four arrivals Saturday, there’s one each on Fri and Sat morning and one each on Fri and Sat afternoon (plus one Sunday).

    ADHD+THC

The talk is of moving it from Schedule I, which are drugs with “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse” such as LSD, heroin, and MDMA, to Schedule III, which are “drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence” such as Tylenol with...

OSH - AIRCRAFT DOWN SOUTH OF ULTRALIGHT AREA

As a gyro pilot, I couldn’t agree more with you. It was shameful to see people on the rotaryforum try to rationalize this guy’s actions.

    Wag-Aero's Demise

I don’t disagree with a single word you said AND I still am not sure the statement that “…the motivation for them to build businesses diminish…” is substantiated. My observation is that people tend to optimize their assets within their environment. Change the environment and they’ll change their...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

That feels a lot like it deserves “The canard about high incomes paying lower tax rates taking away from the top, and the motivation for them to build businesses diminish, and the downstream effect is less employment or even layoffs, needs to be beaten down with extreme prejudice every single...

    Wag-Aero's Demise

Not sure if that will happen but I gotta say, private equity is ruining lots of things in lots of domains, especially healthcare, IMHO. To see what they’re doing to assisted living facilities, ER groups, even plain old “senior living” places is disheartening. Overall I’m a fan of capitalism but...

Empty cargo planes roam the skies

With Mothers Day coming up, I wonder if you can have a chemtrail named after someone like you can for stars

IFR in a different category question

No, I understand. I believe there are two significant purposes for the reports: gathering data to aid in improving aviation safety and secondarily (to them; primarily to us pilots), to provide an alibi in certain situations when a pilot knows something went sideways. In this case, one could file...

IFR in a different category question

Didn’t mean to imply that ATC actively looked at an audit trail. My bad. What I meant was, unlike the OP situation, if a non-IFR-rated pilot filed an IFR flight plan on line and then had some event that triggered a look-back, there would be a pretty good paper trail of how many times they filed...

IFR in a different category question

I can’t say every time but my experience is similar. Maybe because we log in before filing pre-flight (and therefore there’s an audit trail), they don’t need to ask then but for pop-ups there’s less indications of who it really is.

IFR in a different category question

Violated the regs? Yes. Worth declaring an emergency, as described? Personally, I don’t think so unless you actually felt like there was something beyond your resources (personal ability, aircraft resources, etc.). I’d contend there’s not a lot that’s harder in a PA-28 in IMC than in a...

    Home insurance sticker shock

We’re with USAA, which seems to be one of the best for coverage and service at a competitive price and ours is going up about 50%, partly because of a recent claim but mostly because of increased home value plus increased claims overall. I spent an hour on the phone with an agent “negotiating”...

    Preview of things to come.....

I respect the points in your post (as I do in all of the others, including ones with which I disagree). For this observation, consider missiles (especially ballistic and cruise), V1 and V2 rockets, and even long-range artillery in certain circumstances. Stand-off capability has been around for...

Does the USMC define them as Marine Aviators? Not sure but I doubt it. If so, their game, their rules. It’s not a People’s Choice Award.

    Preview of things to come.....

And the guys who fly Air Force 1 and all of the Special Airlift King Airs, etc., same thing? But the guy piloting the drone and making literally life and death decisions isn’t? This makes me think of IFR flying. We all know that for most of the flight in IMC what our brains tell us is...

    Preview of things to come.....

So…the B2 pilots who flew their bombardiers from Whiteman AFB, MO and dropped their bombs from well above the range of any known AA stuff were “warriors” but the UAV operators embedded with a unit in Kandahar and subject to attacks from the ground for the months they were deployed were not?
