CFI Gift on Solo, Check Ride Pass

In spite of risking life and limb on an almost daily basis due to student and certificated pilots alike, there are many CFIs that don't drink. I fly part 135 as well as teach, so I just stay away from booze. I would suggest a gift card to a local restaurant where he/she can take a significant...

    Low Time Alaska Flying Opportunites?

Can't go IFR, go VFR. Sorta'.

    Low Time Alaska Flying Opportunites?

Yeah. Until recently, you didn't do it for the money. I got a whole $160/day my first summer there flying 207s. Pay went up with the pilot shortage, but I'm sure it will drop again with a pilot surplus.

    207 for Personal Use?

Having flown numerous 207s around SE Alaska and after more than 1500 hrs in them, I'd own one if mission demanded it. But I think I'd rather own a 206. You'll have a better chance of finding a nice example than you will a 207. 207s were made to work and most of them have had or still do have...

    Low Time Alaska Flying Opportunites?

I'm not David, but I do fly part 135 in Alaska during summer months, (except 2020 due to Covid). You'll need a minimum of 500 hrs for a VFR only position in the 135 world. That's legal minimum. Competitive is usually higher. I had 1300 when I got my first Alaska job as a VFR only pilot. That was...

Freedom boat from Greens Creek Mine......

Nice to get some good weather lately too. Everybody is working on their tan for the few sunny days. LOL. But being Juneau, rain is on the way.

Be a CFI in my old age?

Picked up the CFI ticket at 55 yrs old. Now 66 and really enjoy teaching flying. Gives me a little pocket $ too. Go for it if you're so inclined.

Do You Wash Your Wife's Car?

No wife, no wife's car to wash. Win-win.

I told the wife that I would never get a motorcycle...

I've had a couple of scooters as well. Last was Yamaha 125 Zuma. Great for around town stuff. Would cruise easily at 55 mph. Just stay away from the Chinese stuff. Some shops won't even work on those.

    Insurance on Cirrus SR22T

I have a friend who bought a used SR22 for $265k. Low time, PP, no instrument rating. Pays a bit over $5,000 per year after the Cirrus training. So it can be done.

Alaska Seaplanes my take over Pen Air operations

They had 5 Saab 2000s at the time of their BK.

Alaska Seaplanes my take over Pen Air operations

Having worked at Seaplanes, their now-defunct competition, and a couple of other 135s, I believe they have the talent to do so. What they will use for airframes isn't clear. It appears all they bought was the operating certificate as Penair's Saabs were leased. I'd bet they start with Caravans...

    VFR into KLAX

Been quite a bit of VFR SEL traffic in and out of LAX lately. This guy was in front of me the other day. The 747 behind him had to wait quite a while for his left turn at the shoreline. LAX tower seems to be happy to see the traffic.

    Sac's burger review - Burgerim

Me too. With onion. Yum Yum!!! :) The cooked-in mustard gives the patty a good zing. Really tasty. Animal style gets pickle slices as well.

    "Pencil Whipped"

What were you flying in 1873?

    Pc-12 safe in a field.

They are anything but tame in a stall. They have both a stick shaker and pusher. Aside from a stall, they truly are a pu**y cat to operate and fly safely. PC12 stall testing with the shaker/pusher disabled.

    KAJO 152 off airport landing

This was 2010. The airport flooded in 2005 as well.

My employer is asking employees to live in camp for four weeks

Everyone at Ward is great, including the D.O. whom I know quite well. But I fly the PC12 at Seaplanes when the economy is normal. 7 years on Caravans before that for Seaplanes and Wings of Alaska. No summer visitors, no flying around Juneau so far this year. I used to walk back and forth...
