    Leaky Lycoming

I've been instructing in a Cherokee 140 with an engine that has begun leaking oil at the case seal around the case bolts. Top near the front. I've seen other aircraft engines that have been gooped up with something like silicone/JB Weld to stop this sort of oil seepage. Is this an accepted...

    Commercial, why do it?

Almost my story as well. Getting the cert has led me to over 3000 hrs with several Part 135 operators in Alaska. I do a lot of independent CFIing now as well. Contract PC-12 flying and instructing are all I do anymore after a background in construction. Got the cert then saw opportunities. It...

Accelerated Commerical SEL near San Diego

Hey Robert! How about F70? Didn't you used to have a 172? Pretty sure we've flown together before many years ago. PM me if F70 works. We can get it done fairly quickly and the DPE here is not too tough to schedule.

    GNS 530 and VOR ID

From the Garmin website re: The GNC 255: "The device even automatically decodes a station’s Morse code to provide a positive identification – no aural decoding required." I've taken numerous part 135 checkrides in Garmin equipped aircraft. The check airmen (and FAA) have always been happy...

    My new job

Mid-life career changer here. Other than some CFIing, C-208 was my first pro pilot job. Logged about 2000 hours in them before moving to faster equipment. The view from the front seats is outstanding as you are well in front of the wing and the wind screen is huge. When I would do glacier tours...

    Cracked exhaust pipe - options

If it can be repaired, these guys can do it. http://www.customaircraft.com/ I had a Cherokee exhaust repaired there and it looked like new when I got it back. Absolutely no sign of it having been repaired. I flew the plane another 1000 hrs before selling it.

what's in your flight bag, middle age edition

If you had a plane full of locals coming home from a trip to Walmart, you prolly had plenty of Pabst or Rainier as well. Maybe even some Fireball.

    Yosemite visit

Mariposa-Yosemite is about as close as you'll get. Nice airport. Call ahead about rental cars. Merced calls itself the Gateway to Yosemite. I wouldn't stay at any of the hotels there. Fresno??? Well, it's Fresno. You could go to Mammoth-Yosemite (KMMH) airport, rent a car and drive over Tioga...

Flying Job for Retired Dude who doesn't want to constantly be gone

Part 135, single pilot, VFR/IFR. Both freight and people. Company has Cessna 208s, PC12s and 6 float planes. I fly the PC12s after I flew 3000 hrs in the 208s. You must be comfortable with SPIFR flying full approaches, often no radar. No VTF here. More IMC than you want for sure. But it is some...

    Visiting Juneau!

Glad you were able to get here and enjoy some of the great weather we've been having. Glacier Bay is some wonderful flying. If you're still here and have time, Sitka is a great quick destination. Very good airport restaurant and the most beautiful approaches you can imagine. Skagway is fun too.
