    Purchase of an experimental aircraft

    1) You can do anything you want other that the annual condition inspection. That requires and A&P (IA not required). 2) Out of state LLC will gain you nothing other than more paperwork/cost. 3) If the factory did the annual, that would be good enough for me. When they do one for a plane...

PC 12 Down off of NC Coast

Not really a necropost. More of an update since the final report just came out.

Clearwater FL crash into mobile home park

I saw a CCTV video on the news tonight (I think it was ABC) that showed the plane coming down. Looked really fast at about a 45 degree angle.

    Amelia Earhart’s Long-Lost Plane Found?

It's that time of year already? Or did they burn through all the money they got the last time they "found it"?

    Cell phone carriers

have you considered a microcell? Or last house was in an AT&T dead zone. Installed one and it solved the problem.

    Antennae appearance database

The problem with that logic is that at that point in the game, you don’t know what things are “need to know”, “nice to know” or ”don’t need to know”. So most people will go with everything they’re told is “need to know”. As for knowing what an antenna does for troubleshooting, 1) that’s what...

    Or this one.

    Antennae appearance database

First of all, the only thing a typical pilot can do to preflight an antenna is to make sure it's firmly attached. You don't need to know what the antenna does in order to do that. As for where an antenna is, I would submit that if you can't see an external antenna then you probably failed the...

    Antennae appearance database

I always thought those types of questions were idiotic. Makes as much sense as requiring drivers license applicants to be able to identify the logos of all car manufactures.

    Advanced Avionics vs. Conventional instruments

Look in the mishaps forum. It's probably the longest recent thread. Edit: yep, 19 pages so far. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/youtube-pilot-and-her-dad-perish-in-tn.145359/

    Advanced Avionics vs. Conventional instruments

I don't think so. I think she would have been just as lost had she never seen a GPS or a moving map.

    Advanced Avionics vs. Conventional instruments

I look at it the same way as what VOR was to ADF. Or Loran was to VOR. Or GPS was to Loran. It's an improvement of the tool that we used to have. When VOR's came out I bet there were old timers who looked at anyone who relied on those newfangled navaids as sissies. You wanna call me a sissy...

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

So what was the "one thing nobody else is saying" about this? I tried watching it but just couldn't make it long enough to find out what it was.

    Looking to build an airplane

I obviously biased. One factor missing is how long are those cross country flights going to be? 400nm or less? RV might be better. Longer than that and the Velocity starts looking better. My XL-RG cruised at 200kts. My wife has a 2.5 hour leg sweet spot (she'll stretch it to 3 if it...

    Looking to build an airplane

Certified or E/AB, you're still going to have to have an engine overhaul at some point. If you send it out, there's no price difference so that's a wash. I had a nose gear collapse. Total cost of repair, parts and repaint was about $1,000. Good luck getting a certified aircraft repaired for...

    Who controls staffing at airports?

Yeah, but the people on the cruise ship are the same people who departed on the cruise ship. That’s a lot different than 5 planes from 5 different countries coming in people on those planes who originated from who knows how many countries.

Youtube Pilot and her dad perish in TN

Is a training course required to get a drivers license? Is a drivers license issued by the federal government? Is every motor vehicle accident which results in fatalities investigated by a separate federal entity other than the one who issued the license? in this particular case I would not be...

    [NA] Todays rant: obsolescence.

I don’t know if that’s “planned obselescence”. There are hose fittings which go around the outside of the hose with a threaded insert that tightens the hose to the fitting. Trim the bead down, screw in the insert and you’re good to go. The fittings are getting hard to find though.
