    Open cockpit?

The Waco flight was my first logged high perf, T/W, and first aerobatics. I flew all but takeoff and landing, and logged 0.7 for the 30 minute flight package as he gave me some taxiing instruction and didn't count the ground time in the 30 minutes.

    Open cockpit?

Go find out for yourself: http://www.americanwarbird.com/flight-packages/ I've only done the 1/2 hour Waco flight. It was awesome.

    Pa28R fuel pump over use.

You didn't do any damage. There may be additional wear on the pump. I've always wondered if anyone has actually done an analysis or test to determine if it is really better to turn off the aux/boost pumps on light aircraft. Wear from the pump operating may not reduce the pump life as much as...

    T-38 down

The T-X program has received final proposals, and should be rewarded soon (month, two, its the government you tell me). Still no reason to not fix a T-38 gearbox issue as they will still be flying for years...

    RV panels are terrible

An RV is neutrally stable. A Mooney is positively stable. By definition a Mooney is more stable than an RV. However, I very much prefer my neutrally stable RV.

Good BBQ in northern Illinois ?

Saint Louis is just over 2hrs at that speed. Pappy's, Bogart's, and Sugarfire are all fairly close to KCPS.

    CAFB plane crashed this morning

Yes, assuming vertical is referenced to the relative wind, by definition alpha=0.

    CAFB plane crashed this morning

If you are going vertical, alpha=0.

    CAFB plane crashed this morning

Sorry, but low wings don't work well above 20 alpha. They are, of course, superior in all other flight regimes :).

Do pilots use paper or digital logbook?

I use both. Electronic is just my own Excel spreadsheet. If you are good with Excel, no need to pay for some service to do the same math for you.

    Favorite lightweight tents

3 days will be enough only because of the <$100 tent :frown2:. At least you made a good airplane choice! I would recommend upgrading the crappy stakes that likely came with the Coleman. If it is staked well, at least you won't lose the whole tent.

Keep me from writing a Chief Councils Letter for interpretation...

When I fly in to KCPS from the northwest via direct overflight of KSTL, I'm gonna keep staying with Approach until he says contact tower. Much more important to not be eaten by the SWA737 just above me than not annoy the tower controller. Sure, the regulation should say "an ATC facility...

    NC airports

I spent a week on the OBX with my plane at Dare Co last spring. When I asked about the parking fee on my way out, they asked if I bought gas. "OK, no fee then". It was before the high season, so maybe less picky about the fee. Great airport with lots of parking. Be careful with the winds at...

    Which RV to Build....

The old Van's RVator articles include one on an open tipup canopy (don't know if there is a non-dead tree version). It'll sit slightly open, and can affect pitch a bit as it moves, but not a big deal . . . assuming that the pilot correctly ignores it and continues to fly the airplane.

    Which RV to Build....

Can you find any evidence that this has happened? I've never heard of such a case, and been involved with RV's for a very long time.

    Which RV to Build....

This is the best reason to build. PS head to the Petit Jean fly-in this fall, or better yet get involved with one of the chapters that puts it on. You are in one of the RV meccas.
