Midwest POA June Brunch: June 22, 2024 1000 CDT, The Jet Room at KMSN, Madison, WI.

Added my name to the list, but the weather is looking questionable.

Trent Palmer (YouTuber Bush Pilot Channel) Suspended By FAA

This thread makes me want to start wearing my baseball hats with a straight bill, and I generally hate the look, but if if makes the right people dismiss me, maybe it is worth it!

First ever Airventure. What's better, first two days or last two days.

Nobody comes in on Sunday anymore because the traffic is too heavy . . .

Downtown St Louis from the east: ALN or CPS?

Metrolink from the nearest station to CPS to the dome takes you a whopping 1.3 miles. Stay in the Uber!

Downtown St Louis from the east: ALN or CPS?

Note that there is not a lot to do after 5pm downtown. City Museum is amazing even without kids, and there are a few ok bars. I'd suggest staying closer to the central west end or Clayton (the real st louis downtown). Lots of nice restaurants and nightlife there, and much less street racing and...

I wish Iron Barley had an airport, so we could switch locations. Their Mardi Gras buffet this Sat >> Airport Steakhouse (that is not actually a steakhouse, but still pretty good), so I'm out.

I've found the pattern when we actually get a big snow in STL is that the forecast starts as light rain or flurries, then well maybe some accumulation, next it'll be an inch or two, and finally (sometimes after the event!) they settle on 6"+ (which for those of us from the north, is not much...

I'll be hoping for the backup date in any case. I may be able to finish my condition inspection on Sat, but definitely not in time to fly to breakfast.

    Night recency

In the summer, it is hard to stay current when you own your own airplane. This time of year though it should be pretty simple. Just talk to whoever you rent from. It is generally a hassle no matter what for most of us who don't fly for work. It takes specific planning to go out an maintain...

    Great Lakes/Midwest Breakfast 04DEC2021

We had much nicer weather coming from the south! But as we got close there were airplane slicers pointing through that strip of low clouds!

Looking north from my airplane. Carissa took a nice pano of the full ramp, but I need to get the original to make it a jpg.

    WTF is Gross Weight?

So the lesson is that people inappropriately shorten language all the time resulting in a lack of clarity, and so you have to make sure you know what it means where you read it?

    Great Lakes/Midwest Breakfast 04DEC2021

I convinced my better half that we should get up early, so we are in too! To keep with the theme, after several days of not shaving the itch began. I could go with some stubble if I don't shave again though.

    Illinois registration

I did register with Illinois. The cost is so low as to make fighting it not worth it, and at least the state actually does support airports (except that incident on the lakefront). I was concerned about the taxes with my airplane especially since I moved from MO to IL and so during the build...

    How did you find aviation?

    Top Gun

Let’s say you get intercepted by F16’s…

Not really a fantasy at all. Yes exhaust in the right place to be ingested by the airliner could cause a flameout. The problem is a flameout wouldn't do too much as turbine engines are really reliable. As soon as the exhaust was not in the right place the engine would likely auto restart.

    Pivot Products

I have a pivot mini. I pretty much use my iPad for aviation only except when I want to not take two tablets on a trip. The case is great, and I find the ease of mounting/removing from the airplane to be worth it. Fortunately in the RV, I can hard mount vs a yoke (yuck!) clamp. They are pricey...

    Flying overweight

Gusts are invisible, and can happen unexpectedly. That is why when MTOGW is based on structure, the analysis assumes a gust. Just ignore that though. It'll work until it doesn't as has been mentioned several times earlier in this thread.

    Flying overweight

You evaluated the airplane's load capability in the presence of a gust while taking off at max gross weight. Impressive, but you should focus on the flying. MTOGW is not only performance.
