New to tent camping, need ideas for possible Sun n fun

You didn't mention the type of airplane (useful load being the important factor). If you need to save on weight, go for the backpacking tent. If you have lots of excess load capability, I'd go for something you can stand up in, maybe from Coleman if you don't expect to be a regular camper, or...

    Intermittent Alternator

Have you pulled back that boot the check the wires? I had my alternator cable work loose from its connector. Its a big fat wire hung out where there is a lot of vibration.

    Discouraging flight last night

You can go out and get the full experience all around STL. KCPS has all kinds of odd angles of lights not aligned with the runways that with good winds aloft will make you feel all out of whack for what direction you are actually traveling, you got the nice bluff turbulence at SUS. SET can give...

Wanted - Route 66 interesting places

Not completely exciting, but there is a Charles Lindbergh crash site not too far off of Rt 66 in Illinois. The story is more interesting than the site, but it is just a short drive off.

    NOLA

Downtown St. Louis has gotten a lot worse in recent years. The randomness of the crime has made "just avoid" certain areas a lot less useful. I wouldn't say don't visit, but I'd also very much not recommend walking around late at night unless it is for a well policed event like just after a...

    MO aircraft tax/policy

I've been out of MO for quite a while, but the personal property tax on about a $20k car was $200-300/yr 15 years ago. There are a lot of MO residents at KCPS who enjoy not paying personal property tax to MO on their airplanes.

Sonex is also coming out with a high-wing aircraft.

I wouldn't say that a whole lot of plans and CAD visualizations is more info than a FLYING prototype.

    deep dish pizza, chicago area

Well I never expected Ach's to come up on the list. Aurora is not in Chicago, and the good pizza there is not Chicago deep dish (though they do that now too), but it is the best. Go for extra cheese, I dare you!

What are the consequences of a shorter or longer spinner cone?

What airplane. Generally, for slower airplanes it isn't going to make much difference at all and so the shape may be as much for appearance as anything else. As you go to faster airplanes it'll matter more. The flow into the engine cooling inlets and engine intake inlet are most affected. The...

    Taildragger for 1400' of grass

Wrong. For your actual problem, if you can find an old RV-6 with crappy avionics those sometimes drop into your price range. 1400' is more than enough runway for the mission of building T/W time (not loading up to gross wt).

RV10 or C182 or Other for my needs...?

There is not any "accelerated" build with an RV. You can start with the quick-build kit, and places like Saint Aviation will help you, but building is going to be a big project even with the help. As others have said, build if you want to build an airplane, otherwise buy one.
