The most epic thing you've ever seen?

Not my most epic, and probably not my most epic aviation related either, but the thing that comes to mind at this moment was the first time I saw a Space Shuttle launch. I wish I could remember which mission it was...One of these days I need to dig up my old photos to see if I have the date...

    [NA] Household auto water shutoffs

I replaced one of my water heaters a couple years ago. The new one has one of those things baked into it. Directions were clear to not get it wet, but I had just a tiny dribble come out of one of the pipes as I was doing the connections. Not enough to even wipe up as I recall. Collected in...

[N/A] What's your blood type and how is your relationship with Mosquitos?

A+ and I get bit plenty. I'd say kind of average though, not really more than most other folks around me. When I'm getting bitten by mosquitos most other folks around are too. I do tend to whelt up and itch more than a lot of folks though. One of my daughters is even worse about that. Don't...

    Longest Streak

I had to go look. My longest was only 4 days.... I'm surprised, but considering I've always rented...yeah, maybe not such a surprise.

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Not even trying to "make an argument" with the EAA....and not even dreaming of any sort of expectation that they'd want to get into the business of policing such things....just that they should set the "rule" as an expectation or guideline...as a gentle reminder of good manners and fair play. I...

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

The one and only time I've camped at Scholler, it was just me in a rental car with a 2-man tent. In 2002 I think. I just needed a space barely larger than the rental car. As I recall I showed up a day or two before the actual start of the event. I was disappointed in not being able to find a...

    Aviators who are not pilots

In the early '90's I don't recall a lot of restrictions. I don't recall the actual regs, but the solo endorsement for local "practice area" flight was good for a certain timeframe... 6 months or some such thing here's an example of my first one There were seperate cross county endorsements...

when you don't have your maint. logs with you?

thanks everyone. So it's pretty much what I imagined it might be. side thought... I wonder what all these logbooks are gonna look like in 40 or 50 years or whenever all that sticker adhesive starts failing

when you don't have your maint. logs with you?

Just thought of a random question. Prob a silly one to most of you, but I've never owned an aircraft so I've never had to deal with this stuff... So I assume that most don't typically keep the maintenance logs onboard. Say upir on a trip and have an issue. You find a local mechanic to fix you...

    Aviators who are not pilots

well, yeah...there's that I was commenting on the inability to pass the written...not on that lapse in judgement....

    Aviators who are not pilots

seems more like dyslexia or something like that.... doesn't sound like a knowledge problem to me, based on that story. I wonder if FSDO could do a special verbal "written" for someone like this....

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

that's my beef.... roped off for a friend. paid for or not it's gaming the system I think weighted towards locals especially and against folks coming from a long distance.... I mentioned in an earlier post about the marked-off sites at sun n fun this year, in their overflow cow pasture. It...

    Position of Autopilot control

I'm so rusty I'd have to give this more thought but my initial thoughts are I feel like I'd want to autopilot at the bottom for easier reach from the throttle I'd want my radios with displays up high because I'm looking at them more often, don't want to look down Intercoms are almost always at...

    Kitty Hawk. KFFC

ha ha, yeah.... I've told this story here before but I'll mention it for this conversation... my shortest landing to date was at FFA. Wind right down the runway, and I got the little 152 slower than I really should have. My ground roll was something like this, maybe a little less

Driving to work today through the outer bands of the hurricane when something occurred to me

I've been hoping for that for years! My Audi has a prescription service that has long since lapsed. It has a weather radar page but it was pure crap. I forget the 3rd party app it was pulling up, but it was/is regional views only, horribly low resolution, couldn't be zoomed or panned, did not...

    Rachet tie down question

exactly! Could you even hang an aircraft upside down at EMPTY weight from the rafters of the hangar from those tiedown points, without damaging something? (in that case, would it be called a hanger?)

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

I absolutely cannot wrap my head around any pilot flying into Airventure without at least giving a good ole 'college try' at studying the NOTAM. I can understand forgetting some tidbit in the heat and stress of the moment, or having to refer back to it, etc... but not having read it at all just...

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

So I guess I can't bring my 32ft motorhome to Airventure then...bummer! The other thing is surprising. I've seen many campgrounds at state parks etc that have a similar rule...powered rolling vehicles need to be street legal. Electric bikes are something I've been wondering about for a few...

    Rachet tie down question

seems to me that the likelihood that the angle of attack to reach full lift is pretty much zero. I've always figured that tying down is at least in large part to keep the thing stable... so it doesn't start rocking and swaying, lifting a wing or a tail, etc...
