Pilot Institute vs. King School Instrument

Thanks, Mike. And unlike Pilot Cafe, the Gold Seal cheat sheet is 100% free. We're getting ready to publish one for Commercial later this week, too.

Pilot Institute vs. King School Instrument

There are some questions that are direct quotes from the textbooks. Not every sentence in the textbooks is quoted for a test question. So, from that respect, the topics are pretty encompassing, but not ALL encompassing. That's the way tests work. They sample portions of a course, expecting that...

    Book question

Hey there, Mike. We're elbows deep into our new commercial program at the moment, but yes, CFI prep is on the list. We have worked with Todd off and on for many years and one of our inhouse instructors specializes in training CFI candidates.

Pilot Institute vs. King School Instrument

As expansive as their question database may be, they do not include questions on every single bit of knowledge covered in the FAA textbooks. I understand your argument that Sheppard explains the answers for questions allowing you to learn. But that's a very Cliff's Notes approach. It's the bare...

    IRA Written test

Yes, they are relying on eye-witness testimony. However, based on the OP's screen shots, they clearly do believe this is happening and address it in detail. They don't need proof to address this with AFS-630. They should simply pass it on with a description of the potentially-faulty math and let...

If Shepard believes this question actually exists and is erroneous, they should be contacting AFS-630 about it.

Interesting news about PDK. It seems that Pat Epps is hanging up his spurs and selling the FBO.

I prefer Aircraft Specialists/Jet Center on the south side at LZU. Been dealing with them for over 20 years.

    Rattlesnake roundup?

Before giving the promotors your money, ask if the "gentlemen" doing the collection use gasoline (via garden hose) to flush snakes out of holes. If they do, please don't support them with your cash. This poisons the dwelling places for dozens of other species.

Total disappointment with 4 local avionics shops

I've been through two Garmin "GNS" navigators and one "GTX" transponder. All three of the units developed inop pushbuttons. Those old membrane buttons are crap and I would never recommend that someone add in an old GNS 530.

    ChatGPT

I remember Eliza from the 70s. I was at U of Fla and they had it running as an "app" under TSO on an IBM 370. Pretty damned impressive at the time. As long as you stayed on the rails, you could have some interesting conversations. It would probably appear to the public as AI today. However, that...

Procedure turn? or no Procedure turn

Sage advice, Mark. Yes, had I included "confirm straight in" in my readback I could have avoided the kerfuffle. I must say that I did enjoy the resulting phone call, though.

Procedure turn? or no Procedure turn

Quick story. I was told to proceed to a fix on the approach course with a HILPT. No vectors, just told to go there. When I arrived I began the reversal. The controller got really upset because he expected me to do the straight in. I told him I hadn't been radar vectored. He said that didn't...

Procedure turn? or no Procedure turn

I'd say there is never an "implication" to not do the course reversal. Even if you're positioned for the straight in, if you don't see NoPT on the plate, the only things preventing the reversal is if you are being radar vectored or the controller has explicitely said "straight in". If the...

    Cessna Doorpost AD

We did the 20-18-01 AD inspection on my C182 yesterday. This one is pretty tricky and it's difficult to find what you're looking for. Using a borescope, this shows the area in question. Took well over an hour for the first one and about 30 minutes for the second.
