    San Diego VFR transitions

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the responses. A couple followups: Not my intent. I just like to ask questions for things I've never done before - like flying through those two fairly complex Bravos, or landing right next to an international border. It's part of my research (and...

    San Diego VFR transitions

I think I have my route for my trip south planned as far as the LAX Bravo is concerned; basically, I intend to avoid it to the east :goofy: But flying into Brown field means I have to navigate through San Diego Bravo - which looks even crazier than the LAX Bravo, something I never imagined...

    Not good (FL crash)

Yeah, I don't get it. He seems to have gotten it down in a very controllable state. Why land on the beach instead of 50 feet into the water? open the door, get ready to click off the seat belt, try to flare it on the water, and even if you flip, you'll be alright. Sure, the plane is a goner, but...

    Your dumbest aviation moment?

Oh gawd, where do I start? in 300 odd hours, I: 1) taxied with the parking brake on (all the way to the runup area) 2) almost busted Bravo a couple of times 3) almost (I'm being kind to myself - filed an ASRS report for this one) busted a Charlie (beat that!) after forgetting that FF...

    San Diego airport?

Dang. I DID get the wrong weather - and KSEE is much better in this regard. Thank you!

    San Diego airport?

Goodness. Thank you Random. Sounds like a much scarier mountain than Mt Diablo up near KCCR (my home field). I've looked up VFR stats for all of these, and KDSM actually seems like the best bet in terms of getting out at night. What do you think?

    San Diego airport?

Thank you everyone. So this brings up a good question: I will be flying in ~5PM which shouldn't be a problem, and leaving around 9PM which could be. I am flying VFR. Based on that, which should I pick so that I know I can get out at night?

Can you log time if you stole the airplane

Sure... and if it gets you that prime regional seat, you wouldn't be the first! Thanks for the belly-laughs. Printed to PDF for posterity.

    San Diego airport?

Any insight from locals would be appreciated. Coming down to the Loews Coronado Bay Resort & Spa for a couple days for work in early August - a customer has a big conference there which I am required to attend. Of course, the idea of flying commercial is verboten AFAIC - even if I pay for...

Wichita to Los Angeles in a 172...doable?

Yeah. I learned mine at big bear on a 90+ degree day - with three kids filling the other seats. Made it out of there, but will never forget the sluggish feeling of being at the absolute bottom of the envelope. <200ft/m climb on take-off with no more runway, a lake in front and hills all...

    I Need Your Help

Not in SF. We have a number of clients in the downtown area, and good office managers - having met Kim, I have no doubt she is one - will typically make $60K and a small bonus, on top of options that can easily add another 50% on top of that when the company exits (if it does). These women - and...

The "newest" childhood disorder - daydreaming

This guy disagrees with you. I am not really qualified to seriously discuss this matter, but my mom is world-reknown in this field. I worked in her clinic for years, typing all the diagnoses she made into the computerized system I set up for her (when the idea of doing this was quite bleeding...

The "newest" childhood disorder - daydreaming

In a strange twist, I find myself siding with some religious groups out there... if you can't afford private, home-school your kids. At least these made-up "diagnoses" won't be forced upon them together with the inevitable ingested chemicals.

Things you never want to hear...

Or in my case on my first xc solo... "Cessna 12345, you may want to revise course" followed by "Cessna 12345, do you see the C4 rising into your 12 o'clock right about now? that's why"

Which driving habits did you have to fight during flight training?

No, no, I'd NEVER done that. Ever. I have no idea what you're talking about mister. Absolutely no idea, before I saw this post. Nope.
