Yep. My AA5 has the upgrade as well as a cruise prop and STEC 40 autopilot. Makes for a nice 2 place plus baggage plane.

Grumman AA1 at high density altitude

I flew a AA1 from Florida to New Hampshire years ago for a client. If I with two of us, we had to share a toothbrush because packing a second one would put us over weight... I had a Grumman AA5 traveler. It has the similar wing as the AA1. It's for sale at almost the same price point as some...

Talk me out of a Rotorway 162F

As a baby aviator I was a helicopter harlot and would fly pretty much anything that I could get my hands on in order to build time. With a grand total of 250 hours, I was convinced to fly the first 10 hours off of a Rotorway 162F. It paid $15 per flight hour. The good - the 162F had FADEC of...

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

I always bring some type of a treat for the folks at MYAT. They work out of an RV at the airport and it’s always appreciated. Most of the time it’s frozen thin mint Girl Scout cookies.

    Avionics panel design software

I have a guy local to me who I have helped get set up with panel design. He is using CAD and a plasma cutting table. I think he just purchased one of the panel design software programs commercially and went to work. There are several type groups who share this info freely though. The PA32...

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

MYEF is an airport of entry. No reason to stop on your way over unless there is something that I am not aware of in your flight plan. Freeport can be costly when trying to clear through there, plus it adds time to your trip. Just fly direct and clear when you get there. Sent from my...

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

Where would you land short? There is nothing along that general route that I am aware of. I would purposely avoid Freeport myself. If anything, dip a little further south and land in Bimini. KOBE direct MYEF is a good plan and gives you the divert option to Bimini.

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

You will never here me complain about that mindset. In the Bahamas, we never throw anything out - just in case you need it later. Two is one, one is none. I haver two generators "just in case."

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

Way overthinking it. I'll say it again, there is no requirement for any document or letter of authorization but if you are compelled to make one up have some fun with it. I am thinking something like - Roses are red. Violets are blue. Here is my airplane, from me to you.

    Bahamas Fly-Out Roll Call

I have never, ever (and I repeat ever) been asked for one, and there is also no hard fast rule that I am aware of. As a matter of fact, the only place I have ever seen a "requirement" is in the AOPA guide to the flying in the Bahamas. The C7A form does not have a place for it and that is the...

    Fastest Twin Piston Under 400K?

I fly from north central Florida to the Abacos monthly and have fought this fight. Used to have a Cherokee 6. Now have a Cessna 310Q. My flight is routinely under 2 hours. The 414A and the 421B/C have been in my sights lately. MX is the biggest thing for me. For you, it would be the...

    Cloudy Title

Among many other things, I have a dealer's license and have bought, sold and brokered a couple of planes. You need to contact a company like AIC. I worked with a lady by the name of Darzhane who cleared my most recent title issue. They can, for a small fee, do what is called a "quiet title"...

    How accommodating is Orlando ATC?

I flew out of Bob White for a while. This was back in the day of the Delta Connection Academy and their hundreds of pilots flying around using the Connection xyz call sign. Now I think it's L3 with the Bucky call sign.

    How accommodating is Orlando ATC?

KSFB is a soup sandwich with all of the flight training that comes out of there. The controllers forget that sometimes there are professional pilots that do work in between the airlines and the students.

    How accommodating is Orlando ATC?

Very familiar with that airspace. If you are in a slow plane and flying low you will be vectored. When I make that type of a trip I am in a 310 and usually around 7500-9500' and still get vectored for arrivals at times depending on the winds. If you can stay below the Class B it will be your...

Time building (best wet hourly rate prices)

I rent my Grumman AA5 (with autopilot) for $90/ hour dry. The renter can choose how much fuel they want to burn. Other places local to me are renting a Warrior for $140 wet and a 172 for $175 wet.
