    Cheap and fast MEI program.

Seems like I already have…. I don’t treat my airplane like a trainer.

    Cheap and fast MEI program.

Both engines are at TBO. I don’t really want to put undue stress on an $65,000 engine when I can go full rental power on somebody else’s.

    Cheap and fast MEI program.

After 25 years of flying, I oddly find myself possibly in need of an MEI rating. Despite the fact that I have my own 310, I am not willing to start pulling engines in it for a checkride. Any suggestions on where to get a cheap and fast MEI rating? I am located in Florida, but can travel if...

Aero Commander 500 crash off Key West

Recently, there was some pretty dramatic body cam footage of a pilot being picked up from the water after crashing off Key West. The plane took off from Apopka and crashed a few miles from Key West. Looking at the video footage, the pilot states that he had plenty of fuel. For the life of...

I just sold my 45' Aft Cabin boat back in March. Here are some basic comparisons between that cost and my 310Q - Boat - Fixed costs were around $13,500 per year not including boat payment Slip at marina -$800/ month = $9600 per year Insurance/ yr - $2200 Annual MX (oil and such) - $1500...

(Comfortably) Buying a plane without a prebuy?

It depends on the plane as has been mentioned. I have had 3 different planes in prebuy in the past year (one of them is currently in prebuy.) The first plane didn't even get past the logbook inspection. The second plane was looking great right until we found 7 cracked cylinders. Current...

^ 6 Seater for Bahamas trips

I make this flight to my place every 3 weeks. First plane I owned was a Cherokee 6. It hauled everything that I asked it to but did so at 135kts. After one trip that took just shy of 3 hours and another one that had me fly about 100 miles out of my way to avoid storms, I sold it and bought a...

Announcing on CTAF 15 miles out - why is this a thing?

I guess it depends on where you are. In the Bahamas, we routinely announce 20 miles out. Then again it is not uncommon to land on 14 and depart on 32 so that helps deconflict.

    Well, this is annoying

I'm surprised he's that low and the circles are that tight. We orbit around 2000' in the helicopter.

New CFI (Me) and my Son

I am teaching my 18 year old how to fly. I told him that instructor dad is a lot different than "Dad." My job as an IP is to protect myself, the aircraft and the student. In that order. I did share with him though that we would sacrifice the aircraft first so my wife/his mom would not kill...

    Cylinder Compression/ Pre Buy

Those numbers look acceptable when compared to the master orifice. On my 470's I have a couple in the 49-50 range when cold. The SB calls for you to run the engine for 1 hour before testing so those numbers would go up considerably. Disparity between cylinders is not cause for rejection.

Aircraft Spruce - FAILURE in customer service

No. I need SCEET. There is a ton of SCAT out there but not what the application calls for.

Aircraft Spruce - FAILURE in customer service

Yep. I called and talked to a representative. Been a business operator for many years with them. I explained my frustration and told her I was not upset with her and knew she was not the reason for the shipment failure. She said that the website was wrong and they expect more tubing in...

Aircraft Spruce - FAILURE in customer service

I found the email in my junk files. Looks like I didn't even open it. Just saw "Aircraft Spruce Order 15958682 Has Shipped" and figured it was a complete order. It does in fact say that the tubing was not shipped but gives no reason why it was not shipped.

Aircraft Spruce - FAILURE in customer service

I didn't say that they lied to me. I said they didn't even bother to tell me it wasn't in stock or that they couldn't ship it when ordered (despite the website showing stock and them charging me for it.) This is the failure. I now have at least another week of this aircraft stuck on the...
