    Bahamas Trip in July

The FBO's are not charging the fees. It's Bahamian customs. If you are being charged more than $150 for your entry fee and $31/ person departure then you are being overcharged.

Five members of Georgia family killed (Piper PA-46 crash)

In Florida, most, if not all flying would be out of the question between March and October. You would need 40 miles bewtween the storms to split two single cell thunderstorms.

    Baron or Duke?

There is a reason why most Dukes for sale are cheap... My next door hangar mate has a Duke and said it's cheaper to fly his C501 than it is the Duke most of the time. If you must, get one with winglets (so I have heard.)

A revolutionary way to fly a helicopter (and soon planes?)

Let's not forget the insurance aspect of this. It was once a badge of honor (in my mind) to solo a guy in only a few hours. Now, I have seen a shift to getting all of the dual requirements done and then solo the person. The minimum total time is still the same. When I did my add on...

A revolutionary way to fly a helicopter (and soon planes?)

The engine failures all came within my first 750 hours. I still say that if I was not doing primary instruction at the time and literally 30-40 autos a day, it would have turned out differently. I was flying EMS in a A109E when I had my last one (2007) and it was more of a "let's take this...

A revolutionary way to fly a helicopter (and soon planes?)

I've had the misfortune of having 3 engine failures in single engine helicopters (one at night) and one engine failure in a twin engine helicopter. As Velocity173 alluded to, a computer would not have seen the wires when I was in the flare in the auto but I damn sure did..

    Bahamas Trip in July

Bimini has become Miami east. With the big resort and the fast ferry everybody and their brother runs over. You have an airplane, use it to go more than 50 miles off Florida. My suggestion for the OP, since you have the time - Fly to MYAT (Treasure Cay) and go over to Green Turtle Cay. Spend...

    Bahamas Trip in July

There is a great face book page called Flying the Bahamas. A lot of great info there. I fly over about every three weeks myself. July does have a few storms but the weather is not that bad honestly. Are you looking to explore more by plane or to explore the islands themselves? Most first...

    Interesting new Florida law.....

The law would be a tool to be utilized with discretion. There are some security implications that I can think of in addition to the random stalker/ pedo type thought process. Several years ago, we had a guy one neighborhood over who bought a drone and thought it would be cool to fly it into...

Do airlines or employers care what kind of logbook I have?

I showed mine way back when but was only asked to show the last page with my total times. Having my ATP in hand pretty much verified I was who I said I was. That as well as what was PRIA back then (PRD now.) I guess if you are a low time FO applicant they might look a little harder?

Do airlines or employers care what kind of logbook I have?

I've hired a pilot a time or fifty... Never once have I even dug through an actual logbook. You either have the time and I can trust you with a multi million dollar aircraft, or you can't be trusted.

Leasing time in aircraft to a non-pilot

I'll sling some mud into these waters... We have a 6 share partnership on our airplane. The airplane is setup as an LLC and we run it as a business. Some will be quick to refer to the "flight department trap" from the IRS and they would be correct that we could be exposed to this. Here is...

I have unfortunately been involved in the investigation of a few crashes. For the sake of humanity, at least cover it with a tarp.

    Bahamas first-timers trip report

Very nice. There is a FB group called Flying the Bahamas that is pretty active with great information. I just flew over and back yesterday myself and make at least one trip a month over.

    What a zoo!

It's getting pretty crazy here in Florida and the quality of student pilots going undergoing future ATP "training" is scary. I flew into KSUA the other day and was told there were 5 in the pattern by Palm Beach Approach and when I swapped to tower, he confirmed it. Gave me a 5 mile straight in...
