    KSPG near Tampa Question

Would suggest that if you don't need to file that you don't. You WILL get vectored all over. Get FF and fly the coastline pretty much direct. They will turn you in when you are west of Clearwater. Coming over the buildings is a non issue. The N/S runway is preferred though.

    Helicopter Kits/Plans/Important Parts?

I looked in my loogbook to see where that Rotorcraft 162F wound up. My first flight in it was 3/19/2004 and the last flight I did in it was 5/4/2004. To the best of my knowledge, the original builder (who owned an R22 as well) never flew it. Looks like it was sold 12/12/2005. The original...

    Helicopter Kits/Plans/Important Parts?

It was evaluated by a rotor way guru prior to me taking out for test flights. First couple of hours were spent hovering and doing ground maneuvers. I then progressed into quick stops and a little bit more aggressive maneuvering still close to the ground. My first flight around the pattern...

    Helicopter Kits/Plans/Important Parts?

I survived flying 10 hours off of an initial built rotorway. It was a hell of an experience and I would never do it again. For the cost of a Rotorway, I would find a TH55 or H269a

    Helene relief flights

I've mentioned this before but will mention it again - Florida does it right. Unfortunately, that is because "we" have had plenty of practice. As a matter of fact, we might get to do it again this week... Federal government help has to come from a State request. The State request comes from...

    FAA Airmen Certification Branch Efficiency!

    FAA Airmen Certification Branch Efficiency!

Over in Crystal River. He’s pretty much been flying every day with the exception of during the hurricane. Once he gets his multi done, I will do his instrument work in our 310 or the 421 so he will build multi PIC time and instrument time as he works towards a commercial rating.

    FAA Airmen Certification Branch Efficiency!

I have to applaud the Airmen Certification Branch for their efficiency. Seriously! My son took his PPL on August 27th and just got his hard card on September 30th. The card arrival might have been sooner had it not been for Hurricane Helene. Those folks must be working really hard in that...

    Aviation Etiquette

Truth. I once flew a couple to the Bahamas who felt that they were on top of the world. They were nice for the most part but felt the need to flex that their "financial situation" allowed them to fly privately to a house they were renting there. The husband quipped "have you ever been to the...

    Aviation Etiquette

I happened to be the "lawn guy" that it happened to. I would go out to the airport late on a Friday or early on Saturday mornings and run the great big tractor around or the zero turn. In turn, it covered my hangar rent while they were looking for a new maintenance guy at the airport and...

    Compression too high?

I have yet to see a mechanic use a digital compression gauge so reading the needle on a analog gauge is going to give you some inconsistent readings depending on how you look at the gauge. Further these gauges are usually in 2 psi increments so the 75 mark is an eyeball.

    Aviation Etiquette

Remember that you never know who you might be talking to when you are shooting the breeze in the FBO... Don't assume that the guy who is mowing the grass is just the FBO lawn guy.

Learned this saying years ago - if you read it, then it's true. If not it's magnetic.

What’s the going rate for a multi now?

I used to fly a PA28-151 that had an Mogas authorization. We took off on the Avgas tank and cruised with the Mogas. Back in 2002, gas was under $1.00 from Walmart. That plane was the cheapest thing in the world to fly!

    Any Career CFI's?

I had this discussion with my son who just got his PPL. I flew with him for about 15 hours of his time and he also flew with a "2nd career" instructor to get finished up (as I sold my SEL plane and I'm too big to fit in a 150!) Just before his PPL, he flew with an instructor who is a retired...
