    182 R owner looking at P 210 upgrade.

They're complex planes, but nothing excessively so. With good pre-buy, a realistic expectation of the first year's annual, a realistic idea of running costs, it should be a good candidate. I've always loved the P210 from afar, they're good performers. I think they only have about 3.25psi cabin...

Build or purchase something with 2200 nm range

Just get a Merlin IIIB for $300K and you can do it. 2600nm range. Reasonable to operate. Plus, you want a twin over the pacific.

    Bug-A-Salt 2.0

Had mine for a few years. Love the damn thing - it's addictive. And really works.

When will we start seeing new Part 23 aircraft?

Mike B, is that you? :)

    FAA approch to dual-DUI

Since Uber, there are no more DUI's in the built up areas. Still the same amount fo drinking going on. It's just in the boondocks where they'll continue to get caught. So, the conclusion is, if you have a habit and want to fly under the radar, move to where there's Uber service! ;)

    Owning one of these

Recently, I've heard that too. But I keep hearing this about every year and it hasn't been true yet. But maybe this time around it's for real? There seems to be a lot of guys who remember the days of pre-2006 (when airplanes actually appreciated for a few years) and somehow they think those...

    Owning one of these

It has never been a BETTER time to buy an aircraft, and never a WORSE time to sell one. Complete buyers market and lots of bang for the buck out there. A Beech and MU-2 broker posted on an another forum a month or so ago - out of his last 16 sales/buys, the average paid price was 30% lower than...

    Aircraft That Appreciate/Hold Value???

    Yeah, 180/185's, Cub's, 195's, RV's, PC-12's. That's pretty much it. Everything else is depreciating.

    Owning one of these

If you have to go jet, and old 501SP is probably the cheapest entryway into the jet world. Pretty simple plane, lots and lots of parts around. You're just going to fly marginally faster than a TP, but have 100% more fuel burn and shorter range. Anything that has Williams engines you'd better...

    Owning one of these

The reality? It's grounded. You can't fly it at all without upgrading to Stage 3 hush kits, which costs about $1.5million....

    210 or 337?

The main gear and wings are really strong. I seem to recall there hasn't been a breakup of an Aerostar in the air ever, but I could be wrong. Now, the front gear is a little weaker and they have a tendency to show cracks there, so something to inspect on a pre-buy.

    210 or 337?

Aerostar is a wonderful aircraft. Flies like nothing else - all push-pull rods, like a little jet. Built like tank - you get a descent from ATC, you just push the nose over and take the speed. No need to throttle back - the yellow arc and Vne is crazy high. Honest plane that's safe as long as...

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

The props are $100K... Frankly, doesn't make sense on -1 plane, mainly for the -10's. But the guys who have done it on the Commanders love it. Say the vibrations are much less, better climb, much more quiet. But no real speed gain. I couldn't get higher because my left power lever travel was...

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

Nice one Ted! The Commander and yours with the -1's are very similar in that regard - they kinda lose poop around FL200. These are ideally 16000-FL230 kind of planes, although as you said they can be nursed up higher in ideal conditions. The MU-2 has better cabin diff, so is better suited for...

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

Thanks. It hasn't been the money so far, it's the time lost. Thought I'd pick her up this week, but now three new things have popped up - voltage regulator, squat switch glitching (probably) which actuates the safety valve (making her dump pressure) and a vacuum leak that can not be pinned down.

Not so good. Painful and endless.

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

The 8000ft is a limitation of the OEI climb rate. That small wing, dirtied up with spoilers and huge flaps, doesn't do wonders for single engine ops. The good thing is it's faster than the competition. Congrats on finishing training! Look forward to pirep...

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

You'll probably find Ted that you'll set you approach power on the Torque gauges. On mine, it's pretty much at 180hp/side and that results in about 120kts for the approach if I recall correctly (it's been 5 months since I flew it).

It's also the stator vanes to consider when the turbine wheels get looked at. Most likely some of them will need replacing and although not as expensive as the turbine wheels, they're still costly. Not sure if they can be repaired or welded.

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

Just a tiny correction - both the 680T/V/W and 681 Commander models came with -43A's or -43BL's from factory. 575hp engines, 2000hr TBO. The Century, or -1's, engines were all aftermarket conversions. My conversion was done by Garrett themselves in the early 1970's. But otherwise the -1's in...
