    Used Airplanes. Lessons learned?

Agreed with Wielke - buy your last plane first. Although I've never been able to live by that myself, your needs and your capabilities will outgrow most entry level planes before the ink is dry on bill of sale. So if you eventually want a fast, retractable family tourer, just go get that from...

    I outdid my tightwad self!

I've found that tightwads are normally in the hoarding camp as well. They'll collect stuff just because it was free or a good deal, regardless of if they actually need it or not. Come home to them and they've saved every jar since 1969. They have to have storage and buy bigger houses for all...

    blood pressure and exercise performance

Nothing beats weight loss for BP reduction. But if you're already fit, then it could be just genetics. Doctors love to prescribe BB's. Makes everyone much more money than telling you to lose weight. No money in that.

    Approach plate question.

You're right. Never seen that before.

    Approach plate question.

JVL to the fix is not a feeder route. The radial is just to define the IAF from another VOR. You can not fly it (unless you're being vectored) as part of the approach.

    Used Airplanes. Lessons learned?

Spend money on bling if you plan to resell it. Glass panel, new interior, new paint. You won't get your money back on it, but you will get more of it back than if you'd spent it on mechanical stuff and engines. People buy with their eyes, just like they do with cars and real estate.

What is wrong with this plane?

No doubt the CE500 can be great value. If I could afford or needed the capabilities for an entry jet, I would look no further. But the older JT15D engines burn about 3x as much as the TPE331. They are of course faster, but the earlier ones are not speed demons. They're only about 50-80kts...

What is wrong with this plane?

The C500 is a money eater when it comes to engine overhaul and fuel burn. The TC's are a bargain compared.

What is wrong with this plane?

Unfortunately, the Skymasters are for some reason hated by most people except the ones who fly them. I've never seen such dislike for a single airframe, for no other reason than that it's perceived as ugly. I've always thought they look pretty cool in an utilitarian way. And anyone who's seen...

    Checkride stories.

There's a great video where DPE Andy Munnis explains what's expected and what the common mistakes are. It's 2hrs, but it's so worth it. See it, follow his advice and you're good to go.

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

Aerostar 700 or Superstars also had 350hp IO-540. Pretty reliable, actually.

    Cloud Nine's New Plane

Congrats Ted! You seem to follow my way of buying planes - buy basket cases that you the spend lots of time and money upgrading… ;) Look at this transformation of a Chancellor by photographer Chris Jouany. It's very inspiring. And expensive. Guy spares no expense... But when you're ready to...

Help me convince employer to buy company airplane

Better off in a Turbo Commander 690B. 5 year gear inspection is $15K, whereas King Air's is $40K. TPE331 engines have 5400hr TBO, PT6 only 3600hr. TPE331's cost $250K to overhaul, PT6 anywhere from $350K to 500K. TPE's burn 20-30% less fuel. I have a nice Turbo Commander 690B for sale with Dash...

    Tesla Model 3 Announcement tonight

I don't like electric prime movers because of environmental issues, I like it because it's a superior technology. A car should be propelled electrically - how you then feed that electric motor is less interesting to me. Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenisgsegg just released his latest...

    Tesla Model 3 Announcement tonight

Oil happens to be low just now, but that is not going to last. It never does. Electric is the future. Elon Musk predicted that in 20 years time all personal vehicles will have electric prime movers. That was about 5 years ago. He's going to be right. Tesla might not be the car for everyone, but...

    Rich mans game

Never tell. No upside. They have their mind made up that flying is the most expensive, dangerous, irresponsible, polluting thing in the world. You can't win. Just pat them on the back and say "way to go" when they buy another ATV, boat, gator, golf trip, SUV, Harley or quail hunting trip.
