Mark Baker to step down at AOPA

LOL…. Well there are some services that are inherently the governments responsibility. Then there are others they have no business being in!

I should be there at the airport north ramp by 1130. I’m assuming they are still parking on the north side and able to walk across?

Let’s also not forget, beating back ATC privatization. If that one piece of legislation had past, bugsmasher aviation would probably be gone by now.

”change of plans, 1:30pmET instead of 2”. I think Eman needs his own thread for Pig in Poke. Is this for Rick’s? Thought Jim K said 1200?.? BTW… If I remember correctly, Rick’s is really slow, so you may not even eat until an 1 hr after you order. PS- I’m waiting to see a final meet time...

Are you planning Rick’s at KEYE or Eman‘s favorite pig restaurant? Inquiring minds want to know.

    Internal engine pre-heater--opinions?

I agree with what you are saying for a Lycoming since the cam is not bathed in oil like the Continental. But if you only heat (sump heater only here) when you are going flying, then if you fly for an hour on more with oil temps at 170-180 degs, the heating of the oil gets rid of the moisture in...

    Internal engine pre-heater--opinions?

I have started doing the same thing and keep my cowl covered and the air inlets plugged With an old moving pad. When I put the sump heater on overnight via my cell phone switch, I can come out in the morning and the engine bay is warm and the cylinders warm to the touch. Metal has good heat...

Class 3 SI (OSA) letter delay times

If I recall, it did take a while, but you re at 6 months. I would start calling the FAA medical office. Also, as a member of AOPA, I did call them and I think they gave me a different number to call. more like a direct line. YMMV.

Long haul flying - what a PITA

I’m right there with you. A lot of new folks think they will purchase a small GA airplane and jet around the country. Not so fast Kemosabe!

I’m in the same boat, but 4 years away. Every time I think of going to a Bonanza, I think through the insurance in 4 years, and say nah… I’LL just keep my Tiger!

    Inadvertent ice encounter

Key word in the Skew T Key word in the above is FORECAST. This does not constitute KNOWN. But you are correct, probably ice in them their clouds. I would then check for Pireps. If there are then it is KNOWN. IF there are no PIREPS, and then once airborne and you encountered, it is KNOWN. GET...

    Inadvertent ice encounter

Not to be a dick, but if you didn’t get a weather briefing, how’d you know it was not known? An AIRMET or .signet for icing is a forecasted situation. A pilot report is known. Did you check pilot reports prior to flight? Based upon your admission of not getting a preflight briefing, probably...
